The problem with analytics is that abstracting a game played by humans into numbers doesn't account for system or style of play. It removes the element of psychology or pressure completely. As you said, it doesn't factor in identity. Hockey is a game played by humans. Humans adapt and strategize to shut down other humans.

That is the folly of abstracting everything into a numerical value. The numbers most often do not tell "the full story".
