Job Summary
Intelligence Officers (IOs) are at the forefront of keeping Canada safe. IOs conduct investigations, perform research, analyze information and prepare clear and concise reports on matters related to national security.
A career in intelligence is filled with variety and the pursuit of knowledge. IOs work with government partners to identify the intelligence requirements and report the intelligence back to senior government ministers.
The ideal IO excels at both analysis and investigative work. In other words, IOs must be dual in nature - able to work autonomously doing research analysis, and also work with a team building contacts and networks in various communities.
Flexibility is a key requirement as IOs are regularly tasked to engage in extensive training and domestic travel, often at short notice with irregular working hours.
The ability and desire to work and thrive in unpredictable situations and in environments of varying threat levels are also essential.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
Experience
Knowledge of the Service’s mandate and threats to the security of Canada, as defined in the CSIS Act is required.
Knowledge of current events and how they relate to the Service’s mandate is required.
Candidates must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ work experience, related to the competencies sought. This can include co-op, paid and unpaid internships and similar positions.
Domestic and/or international travel experience is an asset.

Security Requirements
Candidates must have no criminal record and must be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. This process involves a security interview, a polygraph and a background investigation that includes credit and financial verifications.
Language Requirements
Bilingual non-imperative BBB/BBB. Knowledge of a foreign language is an asset.
Salary Range
The starting salary is $66,280 progressing to $80,650 (under review) during the development program period and is based on successfully completing training and attaining the required experience and performance.
Location
IOs must be willing and able to relocate within Canada throughout their careers. Relocating to Ottawa is mandatory for initial training purposes and for the three (3) year probation period.

Driver’s license: valid and permanent* Canadian driver’s license (mandatory throughout career).
Mobility: be ready and able to relocate within Canada at any time throughout one’s career. Relocating to Ottawa is mandatory for initial training purposes and for the three (3) year probation period.
Training: to attain permanent (indeterminate) status, IOs must successfully complete the Ottawa-based Intelligence Officer Training Course (IOTC).
Development Program: upon completion of the IOTC, IOs are in a professional development program.
*Permanent Canadian driver’s license is defined as a G Class (Ontario) or minimum of a Class 5 (remainder of Canada). G1, G2, Class 7, Class 6, Learner’s etc will not be accepted.
