Advocating for indigenous rights her entire life. She is one of the last properly trained medicine women on the west coast and she has written several books, mostly childrens books but the stories are a lot heavier than your average fairy tale, about our traditional stories. She spent her entire life in universities teaching or learning from other cultures and drawing connections.
She and my great grandpa are the reason that first nations students were allowed into the university of victoria, they led a big group of protesters down there in the 40s or 50s and won them over.
Probably the most knowledgeable individual I've ever met and every time I speak to her it changes my world view. She understands and has witnessed things that I don't think anyone else will, the spirituality has just been totally lost with the change of the era.
