The only defensemen who are without a doubt better than Hutton are Ghost, Parayko, and Rielly.

First of all, I'm not saying Hutton is better than the players I've listed. But he's definitely should be in the same conversation as them. The only reason he doesn't get talked about is because he's not a high pick like the people I've listed and he wasn't talked about at all until this season when he made the NHL. And he plays for the Canucks so people love to hate on that.

Now your argument is going to be, "well he's awful defensively!".
No he's not, I've watched every game he's played. He's played with some awful players thats for sure, but he's always cool calm and collected. He was the 2nd most defensively sound player on the Canucks behind Tanev last year.

Keep in mind that Ben Hutton played on the worst team in the NHL and also played on the 3rd pairing. He had no power play time and still led the Canucks defence in scoring.
