I don't know about you or your current association with HFBoards but let me tell you something as someone who has posted on HFBoards.hockeysfuture.com for nearly 9 years, that HFBoards.hockeysufuture.com remains one of the best message boards out there for analysis and I would take it any day over /r/hockey. Any day.
That being said the main theme still remains, that Penguins fans are a highly irritable bunch online. And that was the main thesis of my statement. You're putting words in my mouth where you're extrapolating what I said about Penguins fans and applying it to the fanbase as a whole.
Let's get one thing clear. If you live and die in Pittsburgh and go to PPG Paints and cheer your team on, if you have season tickets, if you live in the Pittsburgh vicinity and rock the black and yellow then go ahead I'm not stopping you. My issue is with people OUT OF STATE AND COUNTRY that do this, and as I said I know at least 4 or 5 Penguins fans who constantly post in the Lounge section of Hfboards.hockeysfuture.com
I have season tickets. I go to all the Caps Penguins games. I see a lot of very friendly Pens fans in person. I said this in my original post where you complained about me generalizing the whole fanbase. I have said REPEATEDLY I have no issues with these people and that these people are even attractive individuals, even if they are Penguins fans.
The biggest problem I have is the online fanbase, and you can chalk that up to people such as yourself who take this "It's the anonymous nature of the internet so I can lurk all around reddits and reply to comments people made a week or so ago" but the fact is true. The Penguins reddit has STRICTLY forbidden their fans from going to brigade subs. Despite this, they come in here all the time and talk crap. And then when confronted they claim "it is the internet we can do whatever we want" even though the rules of their specific reddit explicitly forbid their type of behavior. It happens in /r/hockey, /r/caps, even /r/Cfb !
This is my biggest problem with the Penguins, it's the way their fans act online and it's despicable. No one has a problem with you winning, but when you gloss yourself as the best and greatest and mock everyone else and exhibit opinions dangerously parallel to those of Paul Steigerwald, show no sense of objectivity, generally act like an obnoxious group of spoiled brats, what do you expect me to say, on HFBoards and Reddit, when I see this behavior go on? Do you want me to pat you on the back? Congrats, old chap, heck of a game there? No. I'm not going to kowtow to you just because of divine right or something like that. Just because you all act entitled. I said my congratulations but I'm not going to be obnoxious about it and force it upon others like most of the Penguins online fanbase is doing.
And you all should be downright ashamed of yourselves is what I'm saying. You know better and you lot need to be humbled as an online fanbase. Don't go into other subs brigading. Don't act a fool on /r/hockey. Because I know I speak for a lot of damn people here when I say that I'm happy for you all but I'm not happy about the way you all conduct yourself online. It's an anonymous environment but the way you all are acting, especially with the bandwagon in full force, karma is coming. And when the Penguins start struggling, you all better stay on that wagon as the wheels start teetering off.

HFBoards full of ridiculous trolls? How long have you been surfing, posting, or lurking on HFBoards?

You must not have been posting there long if you think the trolls post without getting any sort of justice. Listen, if you want to say HFBoards is overly moderated, I'm not going to stop you. But accusing HFBoards of having trolls when most of the criticism about HFBoards is the moderation, is absolutely hilarious and shows you have no knowledge or concept of the forum structure at all.

Let me drop some knowledge proper good on the workings of HFBoards. You see, HFBoards is run by a moderation team, unlike Reddit, that is going to crack down ,as is their right, on offensive and terrible posts. And people act like this is a bad thing. It's not. It's a good thing that the troll who came into the Caps forum and started making fun of them for losing in the playoffs again got an infraction. It's a good thing that his post was deleted. It's not a bad thing. On HFBoards, content like yours, content of low quality which does nothing but incite and instigate, would be deleted and you would likely get a "blue box" pop up.

If you want to criticize HFBoards, go after the antiquated forum structure or raise an issue about moderation. Don't go after the trolls because they don't exist. There are very obnoxious Pens fans in the Lounge, but on most parts of HFBoards, if you flame away at a fanbase, you will have your post deleted and you will be infracted. Trust me on this.

Your second point is also inaccurate, that Caps fans are part of a bandwagon. No, Caps fans are not part of a bandwagon, nor do they have any reason to toot their horn or "be obnoxious" in the sense that they have significant accomplishments. Do you know why? You know why. Because the Caps haven't gotten past the second round since 1998. So what in the world makes you think there's this Caps faction that is cocky or bragging about success when there hasn't been any since 1998? You have no clue what you're on about.

No, no Caps fans brigade. If they do it's very rare. Again, there is NO REASON to brigade when the Penguins are 9-1 against the Caps in playoff history. Dude, just open your eyes instead of fueling this fake news about how the Caps have this mystical bandwagon which is on par with the Penguins. The Penguins have a reason to toot their horn, as obnoxious as they are. The Caps don't. So you will NOT see as many Caps fans be as rude as Pens fans. Pens fans feel entitled to championships. They call themselves the "City of Champions". Guy I saw at the game riding the Metro had a Pens jersey, "Stanley Cup" on the back, 4 as the number. What a mook.

Again, more knowledge dropping proper good. If you want to criticize the Capitals fanbase, go after them for the right reasons. Go after them because they've lost all faith and given up on the team after another playoff exit. Go after them because they are jaded and negative and somehow think they outplayed the Penguins in their series (actual thought, from this reddit!) But don't go out there and say that Caps fans are obnoxious because their teams are successful. It's not even close to the degree and lengths that Penguins fans go to, and you know that.

As for the broadcasters, you are asinine if you even think Joe Beninati and Craig Locker are homers to the degree that the former Paul Steigerwald and Bob Errey were. This is no contest and anyone accusing Joe B and Locker of being a terrible or homer broadcasting crew on par with the awful Steigy and Errey is absolutely deluded. In most neutral hockey circles, Joe B and Locker are widely considered one of the best in the league, as they are team employees and are naturally supposed to root for the Caps, however they will give props when it is due.

The Penguins fans freaked out after they won the cup against Detroit, and turned on Bylsma and Shero mighty fast. Once Rutherford retires and someone else takes his place, and the Pens start losing again, watch the fire start to burn. I mean, it was already out for Johnston. British Pens fan who posts on HFBoards and Reddit, his sole "adversity" he has ever dealt with in his entitled, posh life was the Johnston era. "Ugh I can't stand Johnston." Yeah you're still making the Stanley Cup playoffs, come off it, mate.

So as usual you have no clue what you're talking about. I've been on message boards for nearly 17 years. I have spent nearly 5 years as a moderator and 9 as a HFBoards contributor. Let me tell you right now when I say that HFBoards is much better than reddit in particular and HFBoards phases out a lot of the garbage that you will typically see on Reddit. So if that's terrible, or trolling, I don't know what to tell you. Because I've spent a damn long time on HFBoards and let me tell you their moderation team does a great job of removing rabble like this off their forums. Is the site perfect? It's not perfect at all, and I'll tell you that. It's getting out of control, especially in the Lounge. But I'll tell you this. There is no place I would rather be for football, baseball, video game, entertainment discussion, than HFBoards, where our kind moderation team helps monitor and remove incendiary content like yours so we can all maintain some semblance of sanity in a crazy world.

Shut the **** up Mike

First of all HFboards is the worst hockey forum online and it is known to be full of awful trolls and ridiculous people. The fact that you claim it is legit is beyond pathetic because everyone makes fun of it.

I will bite anyway even though you should immediately be ignored. I can blindly complain about online fans for the Caps fan base online and how terrible they are. How ignorant are you to think that just because someone roots for a team and doesnt live in that city it means they are not a real fan. Have you ever heard of that thing called people grow the **** up and move out to a different state? Again using known trolls or idiots in favor of your argument shows how ignorant you are. So because someone admits they are a bandwagoner that means they all are now? Your example is 5 people you see on that ****** website. Good sample size.

Yes because no caps fans ever have come to the Penguins sub to post ****. Are you that ****ing delusional? I replied to a absolutely ridiculous comment made by a ****ing child because I broswed the sub to see what cry babies posted once the Pens won AGAIN.

Do you actually think the Caps broadcasters are not homers like Paul Steigerwald? Caps fans in person and online are beyond pathetic. Most cant name more than 2 or 3 players on the team and the only thing they all know how to do is talk **** about the Penguins, a team that has ****ing owned the Caps from the beginning of time.

The Penguins fanbase has more than enough of an excuse to do whatever the hell they want online. The /r/hockey sub and the caps sub are beyond ridiculous during the season and especially the playoffs. I read numerous posts that were on the Caps sub and I dont know if I have ever seen a fan base cry more than the Caps.

Haha dont worry people will still be fans of this team when superstars retire and even if this team sucks after that for a while we can still look back and enjoy winning 5 cups knowing the Caps have 0. Stop acting like the Caps dont have one of the biggest bandwagon fanbase in the entire NHL because they do. I have yet to talk to one Caps fan in person who knows **** about anything before Ovechkin or anything about hockey in general. Caps fans are literally the worst fans in the NHL.
