@LarryFisherman I was dead set on getting one of those 5 speaker HTIB bundles (it's so convenient they add the receiver, speakers and sub all for you!) but against my cheap judgement I am going to follow your advice and get a 2.1 system because it is up-gradable you say. I'm also going to look into which receiver you recommended as it would be foolish to buy a receiver that is just 2.1 and then expand and buy a totally new receiver

What I want is something to build on. 2 speakers and sub. Then 5. Then 7 maybe.

HTIB seems fine

i'll do it your way
you don't have to do it my way, but i am an "audiophile" and know what works and what doesn't.

if you want good sound, you're going to have to spend money. if you don't want to spend money, you can still get something decent to nice, but it won't be amazing.

i just feel bad that people get ripped off by those types of systems because they're dog shit and people get sucked in by price or perceived features and such. it's depressing. there's a whole world of good stuff out there.

buy yourself a system in pieces if you don't want to drop all the cash at once. Buy a basic 5.1 receiver and a couple speakers for the front. then in a few months/years grab a center and some rears. or whatever.

For the most basic setup, I'd get something like this to power:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-7...heater-receiver-black/6187502.p?skuId=6187502

and then you can buy small bookshelves for the fronts. These are super sensitive so they don't need a ton of power, and they get loud as f***. I bought some for my wife's office. they're great, and having matching a matching center for when you want to upgrade. or you could upgrade to something bigger and put them in the rear.

but again, you can do what you want.

if you don't care about how it sounds and just want convenience, buy a HTIB system. that's why they exist. if you care about sound quality though, i think you'll be disappointed.

because it will sound like shit, as do all HTIB setups

they don't even list specs on the fkn thing bro. you're literally wasting your money.

you can get a nice respectable 2.0 or 2.1 system for $300 that's upgradable in the future and will sound way f***in better than that.

it's your money, but you're going to throw it away buying that boxed up bullshit

Suggest me speaker setup to plug into our projector via USB. it’s for bedroom so sub woofer is not necessary and speakers themselves don’t even need to be anything great but need something. Doesn’t need to be wireless.

How much money do you want to spend?

I've heard good things about the Kanto yu2 for the lower end of the price scale. There's no remote with a setup like this so my assumption is that you can set the volume on the speaker fairly high and then control the tuning with the normal projector volume selector.

Any powered speaker with DAC should have what you want. I think. I'm not a pro in this department though.

Nothing too crazy. Shared wall where they’d be near so don’t want to blast our neighbors since it’s for night use only. Wouldn’t mind something decent to throw on a basement in a house down the road.
