Out of the two movies, if I had to pick one to watch right now, I would pick The Martian.

It's a more fun movie, it's about 45 minutes shorter, and it doesn't get all up it's own ass with Christopher Nolan trying to give the movie a deeper meaning

About a year ago I got super baked and watched Interstellar, Gravity, The Martian and Arrival all in one day. I thought the Martian was by far the shittiest of the 4.

If you did that all in a day.... respect.

I haven't seen Arrival or Gravity but Arrival does look pretty interesting.

The Martian is probably the most casual viewing out of those 4, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on what you want to watch

Speaking of Matt Damon space movies, I thought Elysium was good in parts.

Unfortunately, the part I remember the most is this dumb scene where Matt Damon is injured and being hunted by police, so Matt Damon goes to this doctor friend Matt Damon knows, then afterwards, Matt Damon leaves without making any attempt to conceal Matt Damon's identity, leading to Matt Damon's doctor friend's near immediate capture.
