Yeah, Network plus as well. It was years ago though, I have not been as active on networking issues the last few years either.

Subnetting is bad.

I remember studying for certification exams and the networking portion had a lot of memorization. You have to know the ports. It's stupid.

Telnet

HTTPS

TSL

Kerberos

etc

I think the funniest thing is that people learn Differential calculus in college but in the workplace they never use it.

Homer Simpson was a safety technician for decades without a nuclear physics degree. What does that tell you about how useful college is? All it does is teach you fancy ass shit you never use in the real world. Maybe it's different for non science majors but for engineers and mathemagicians it's a whole lot of conceptual crap you never use in real life. Seriously.

I basically got through school and college and never studied much. Not so with Network +, it required mostly memorization as I don't deal with network issues directly. Very dry as well, I have a electronics diploma but I knew career wise I would better served with IT certs or diplomas but just isn't for me. Granted this was back before the Internet was high speed or even common.

At least with electronics I can understand the diagrams and figure things out using deductive reasoning, network issues are not quite like that.

Networking is strict memorizaiton esp for port #'s.

True, some of the more common ones I do know or keep a quick guide as on a rare occasion some have to be changed on the devices service mode. Some SMTP servers or set ups require a different port number then what the device was factory programmed at.

Technology just keeps upgrading and changing, even with my job it seemed like you never fully got to know a model and then the new ones come out. Progress?
