The reason is that calculus is only really feasible in one variable, but most applications have significantly more than that. When you deal with a lot of variables, often the only feasible approach is to approximate a function locally by affine linear functions. (That Jacobian matrix business...) One solves multivariable calculus problems by turning them into linear algebra problems! Fortunately, linear algebra problems are usually solvable if you just know enough linear algebra. I am taking a differential geometry class right now which is kind of a powered-up version of multivariable calculus, and it is amazing how often I use Eigenvectors and Eigenvalues which seemed completely useless back in linear algebra.

Oh dear those fools claim that linear algebra is applied OUTSIDE of linear algebra and into differential calculus and polynomials and Fourier series  @Zaide have you ever had to derive eigenvalue outside of a 3 month LinAlg class

oh, i do like tennis. but outside of the avs playoffs games i haven't watched any sports. it's too weird and depressing right now.
Feel like this is why ratings are down across the board for sports. Well this and the amount of people illegally streaming is through the roof.

People online keep saying “go woke go broke LOoLLO” but I really doubt these idiots were even watching the NBA all things considered.

NBA ratings have been awful since Jordan retired.

It's not a COVID thing.

@LarryFisherman I was not a fan of tennis beforehand but watching Serena's gritty run in the US open has me hooked. I watched tennis regularly in the early 2000's but quit watching after guys like Agassi and Sampras faded out and there was no American male left to cheer for. Now in Serena's last years we see the new generation like Kenin rising up and taking her place. Very exciting to watch Kenin right now.

Would recommend you start watching the French Open quarterfinals because it's so much fun.
