at least for informstion security it's very reliant on certifications but programming less so.Years ago I got certified in A plus and Network Plus. The world has changed dramatically since then, and those certifications would be considered "expired" in todays environment.
I work with office equipment that ties into existing networks. We deal with 2 manufactors and then in turn vend out to customers with solutions and hardware. To get the proper training you have to be hired by a recognized dealer and then allowed access to the manufacturer website for training.
Being a technician covers a lot of ground. Sometimes I am physically replacing parts like a mechanic would, other times I am like a engineer trying to figure out a system failure.
Odd job, good days are great but bad days just hang on. Nothing worse then a problem you are not sure how to solve.
i'm sure you've been extremely productive today14 more minutes until I can go downstairs and play games.

i troubleshoot well and fix issuesI don't work anywhere near a programming level. I basically deal with hardware and implement it onto a customers network. A good day I just need a few network paramaters and the IT guys on the clients end can remotely set up all settings and security themselves. Other days, half wit IT hopefuls who couldn't ping their, anyway, how would @Roman Fell do as a field troubleshooting tech? It's a thankless job, always dealing with clients and problems.

i always have the google with me to fix. Apparently when you do this as a job you need to undergo a process and not just look up the fix on google
