I love Korean writing. It is beautiful and simple at the same time.

It's just funny because all varieties of Chinese and Japanese that I know of both have extremely difficult writing systems for an outsider to learn, but Korean is a huge outlier. I know the languages aren't related, but the 3 countries are neighbors and have a long (and sometimes bloody and cruel) history with each other so your instinct is that the languages have more similarities than they do...and yet they don't.

I think that's hard to say, but possible (I'm not an expert or anything.) We have Chinese writing that goes back to the Shang dynasty but Korean and Japanese came much later, and while they both started off using Chinese characters for their writing systems those characters became insufficient pretty soon.

Unfortunately, we don't have any written Korean or Japanese prior to like the year 300/400 or so, while the Chinese had already been writing for more than a thousand years prior to that time.
