Of course it's a movie, so it would be anti-climactic for Bruce Willis to just pick up the detonator and use it, but he picks it up and takes his f***ing time, waiting just long enough so that the countdown clock is at literally the last possible moment.

The entire movie is filled with moments like that, where something can be simply done but has to be drawn out for tension
