i guess i'm ignorant - what's wrong with dp 1.x which will exceed most of the spec?

I'll be using it with the current gen consoles which require hdmi 2.1 to get 120hz at 4k.

i guess dp 1.4 does 4k @120hz but only at 8-bit color, so i guess even if a cable would work, it'd just shit the bed on depth. bummer.

Unfortunately the consoles don't have a dp

right, they just have cables that do dp 1.x to hdmi 2.x. that's how I run my HTPC.
