Proposal: Useful Cap dump to Flames?

OK, I originally hoped the Flames could pick top 5 this year and draft that elusive franchise Center. That ain't happening, and I doubt top 10 is either. So we're gonna have to try for playoffs since we'll be handing Montreal our 1st.

Who's a useful depth player on your team that you'd like to trade to open up capspace? The thought is that the Flames could add a player to get them there, and gain a good pick in the process.

Looking for a hardworking, defensive, physical player that is just over priced. Preferrably with maybe only 1 more year on his contract. No albatross type offers please.

I doubt the Flames are interested in cap dumps with term, especially middling players with 4M+ cap hits. Maybe if that player comes with a sweetener, they certainly aren't paying anything to take that on.

Why not, they have cap room to burn and no major contracts on the horizon other than Andersson. With the cap going up significantly next season, now is the time to leverage it for additional draft capital/prospects.

If they're not going to move out veterans, then taking on bad money is the other way to do it.

I think they can't take on term up to 3 years pretty safely provided the AAV isn't too much (nothing over 5M, higher for shorter term) and the compensation is good. If they turn out to be useful, that's gravy.

I was replying to the post above mine proposing that they pay a 2nd rounder to take on 1.75 years of 4.5M cap hit, no thanks to that.

Dude it's not even December yet. We are getting the best goaltending in the league right now by quite a margin but can't score. If Wolf was even averaging a .920 we would have lost every single one of the last few games he's started.

And our December schedule looks very doable. By making a move now, the hope is we don't fall a point or 2 short by the end of the year.
As was pointed out above, taking on salary & compensation seems like the logical move.

I don't think you are seeing the forest for the trees. Calgary is a team of all depth players and no stars. Adding another teams castaway depth player is not going to improve the roster by any relevant amount. The Flames are being completely carried by excellent goaltending (and a bit of luck with things like Kaprizov getting hurt in the game right before they play us). Making a move now does nothing for us if our goaltending even normalizes slightly since the kind of players teams would be looking to give us are similar to caliber to Chicago taking on Beauvillier last year.
