And you guys all blasted me about wanting to keep our guys out of the Olympics. This is the kind of thing I was worried about. Thank God it's nothing serious.

I don't care about Olympic medals. All I care about is the Stanley Cup. Olympics should be for amateurs.

That's all.

Because Kopi caught the flu? Which he was probably already infected with before leaving for Sochi? Much better for him to be sick during the Olympic break than while trying to win regular season games.

People always complain about the risk of stars getting injured in the olympics, but we have 17 other players on the Kings who are getting 3 weeks off to heal their nagging injuries. That's a huge benefit for guys like Richards, Mitchell, Williams, Greene, etc. Not to mention already injured star players like Stamkos or Henrik Sedin are missing fewer games than they would if not for the break.

I don't really care about medal's that much either, but the olympics is a series of all-star games that actually matter. The best players in the world giving 100%, I love watcing it.

We might get that in 2018 when the Winter Olympics are in South Korea. The World Cup of Hockey would be more meaningful again too, like it was in 1996 when Canada and the US killed each other in a 3 game series Final.

Wait a second... What has his flu infection he carried over from LA to do with NHL players participation in the Winter Olympics?
facepalm?

The original report is he got hit by a puck. Yeah you can catch food poisoning anywhere. If you are going to argue against my point, don't be disengenuous about it.

He looked fine previously. I suppose he may have gotten it at Sochi. Living in close quarters with so many people from different parts of the world in a foreign land will definitely wreak havoc on your immune system! On top of all that he maybe exhausted which doesn't help.

But the players do care about Olympic medals. Or at least playing at that level. That's why they want to be there. To be a part of something like US/Canada in the gold medal game last time, or US/Russia yesterday, or Slovenia winning a game at the Olympics.

It's up to the owners and players to figure it out, but there's nothing you can do to stop it, so you just have to let the injury worry go and enjoy the games.

America Jones ‏@AnthraxJones 31m
it's a good thing Zach Parise did yogurt commercials or we wouldn't know he was even participating in these Olympics

That made me laugh out loud. It's amazing how guys like Parise and Crosby have been so quiet thus far. Maybe they'll pick it up in the medal round.

I can guarantee you that Kopitar will return to LA after Olympics in much better mood than he was when he was leaving LA (because of everything that is happening with our NT).

Actually, with the exception of Brown all Kings players are having huge role for their NT and are one of the most important players in their team and I also believe all of them (except Kopi) will return to LA with a medal.

This Olympics will do wonders to (almost) all participating Kings players...

He's sick. It's not anything hockey related.

It means a lot to his country that he plays and I'm sure it means a lot to Kopitar as well. The Olympics should be the best in the world. It'd be different if the players didn't want to go, but they love it and it's great hockey for the fans all over the world.

He probably shouldn't tried the street vender Borsh. :shakehead

No one cares about a World Cup of Hockey except for die hard North American hockey fans (mostly Canadians), it's so stupid that the NHL uses that weak tournament as some kind of equal to the Olympic tournament every time they propose not going to the Olympics.

Its great hockey. No fighting, very little stick work, lots of emotion, lots of skill, everything that is great about the game, and it gets casual fans interested in hockey.

The NHL would be stupid to not go to Pyeongchang.

It's about Money, The NHL wants a piece of that multi billion dollar TV money.

Prior to '98 it was the Canada Cup/World Cup of Hockey and it was a great tournament. The '87 matchup against the Russians was great, I still say the '96 tournament produced some of the most exciting hockey games. The last one they did in 2004 was a dud though, that just felt like an exhibition tournament, kind of like the World Championships but with more stars involved.

i said it earlier. the NHL would be absolutely stupid to eliminate the Olympics. it is the only NA league that truly can benefit from such a tournament. the NBA can try, but the disparity of talent is far to extreme.

NHL players at the Olympics puts a face to countries and to the NHL teams. it is an opportunity for casual fans to be exposed to fantastic hockey.

of course they do. i saw an article of quote from Snider within the past two weeks and he said he is absolutely against the Olympics participation. statements like that are totally short sighted and assanine. grow the sport Ed you money ***** mongering idiot

i loved the World Cup. hell i've still got all the televised '96 games on VHS in a box in storage. no VCR though, so that's a problem.

The World Cup is fine, let them have their cash grab for us diehard fans in North America.

But the World Cup means nothing to most European fans and will mean very little to casual fans. They can fill up the arenas in Toronto/Montreal/Chicago which are the two major Canadian market and the #1 US market, they can charge whatever they want and the diehards will show up and the NHL will turn a nice profit, and then they can award that hideous trophy which means absolutely nothing compared to an Olympic gold.

They haven't made any decisions on 2018 and I doubt they will until 2017.

The NHL players will be there in 2018, the players love going and 95% of the fans love it, and it draws new fans to the game.

They always say they aren't going and use it as a CBA negotiating ploy because they knew how much it means to the players.
