Maybe. I'm not used to this sort of competent defensive play (you know, being a Sabres fan and all)
McAvoy, Slavin, and Hanifin in particular have really stood out with their play in the defensive zone in the third period. They may have gone into a defensive shell, but they had the horses to still play strong defense (and Hellebucyk when all else fails).

Sabres have never had enough guys who can play in their own end.

Stacking the blue line ruins hockey. Get rid of the blue line and change offsides to soccers offsides and may every coach who plays this defensive shell bs get vicious and repeated jock itch outbreaks.

Another fun night. If the NHL could bottle that with competent refereeing they would really have something.

Binnington just not good enough for Canada on the 2 goals.

I had to take my 64-year-old mom out tonight to get her a salad. She's not that old or anything but she's a hermit otherwise. We get to this restaurant, in Charlotte, and everyone is glued to the TV as the game starts. So I made her sit and wait for a moment and then the fights started happening and then the scoring started happening and finally I dropped her off. Her entire input from that was, "I miss hockey sounds, are the Sabres still doing that?"

Sadly, we are not.

The only thing that opens the game up more is a bigger ice surface or fewer players on the ice. The skating has just evolved too much.

Just a remind, Jason Botterill didn't think this kid deserved a contract -

Also, any time I can see Sam Bennett's dome whipping back because someone has punched his dirtbag face, I'm good.

He didn't deserve it at the time. It sucks to see what he became, but I think not being tendered led to him making changes that made him successful.

Just like Eichel, not sure he would have ever turned into this player in the Sabres system.
