I almost forgot about Gerbe, maybe hes not having a great season, but man theres a guy with a lot of NHL experience and had a good season in Europe last year. He is dynamic, could be a wild card scoring option, not like the team has many of those types.

From USA Hockey on the passing of Jim Johannson ...

"Johannson was proud of the unheralded roster, one that will now try to capture a gold medal for him. "I think it would be huge," former USA Hockey executive director Dave Ogrean said by phone. "If we ever had a 'Win one for the Gipper' moment, this is it."

do the fans of this country's team think that they will medal?

Not really to be honest. They are not that great at international olympics and I really am befuddled at who they picked for the team. Hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it in the cards.

So much has changed since 1980. Collegiate players tried out for the Olympic team in mid- late summer and were required, if picked, to miss 2/3 of their respective teams season. They trained together and bonded as a unit playing close to 60 pre tournament games against college, minor league, European and even the Washington Caps and a couple of other NHL teams if my memory serves me. The cost of that endeavour had to be enormous. It couldn't be done today because what we want to see today is different. For me however, it was the essence of what amateur athletics is all about...and I miss it.

the only reasons i've ever heard of david leggio is because he flipped the net over on a breakaway and because there's a video of him doing a great pierre mcguire impression

I think it will be fun to watch because I love hockey.
This tournament will bring out the best and worst out of these players.

Looking forward to it with no preconceived opinions since I don’t know much about any of the players. Sort of like 1980

Despite a squad of grade C talent, I really think they would have stood a good chance for a medal if they could have prepared for the Olympics properly. By that I mean a training camp, 4-5 month pre-season, lots of practice with elite coaching. As it stands now, it seems like they have put in little more preparation than a beer league team attending a weekend old-timers tournament.
