Updated Predictions Thread - Round 2 & Beyond

With round two about to start - make your prediction of who wins what, and in how many games.

Feel free to also post predictions for beyond round 2, as well as comment on how your round 1 predictions worked out so far.

For me:

Toronto over Florida in 6 games. I think this is finally the year Toronto goes far (and yes, I've predicted this previously, and no it never works out lol)

Capitals in 6. Hoping for an Ovechkin/Matthews round 3 showdown.

Oilers in 6. Vegas has a tremendous team, but I think Oilers have unfinished business and are going to make it back to the finals, and win.

Stars in 6. This one is unpredictable....in large parts because of how both dramatic games 7 went down. A hollywoodian scenario where Hellebuyck finally gets it together, and puts the team on his back to win round 2 and beyond after all of his previous playoff shortcomings make for a good story. Flipside - Rantanen continuing his inspired play to pull Dallas forward is also a very compelling story. I think Stars are simply a better team, so I'll go stars in 6.

Beyond round 2, I see Oilers beating Stars in round 3, Leafs beating Capitals, and then Oilers beating Toronto in the finals for the cup in 6 games.

As for round 1:

Right: Carolina, Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Las Vegas

Wrong: Washington (my brain knew they'd win, but I still homer predicted Habs), Tampa (what a terrible choke job, they were never even in it) and Colorado (terrible outcome in game 7 in terms of how it played out, but this was always a 50/50 with Dallas also being a powerhouse).

I’m basing my predictions upon whether I like the jerseys or not…

Dallas over Winnipeg (the only chance the Jets have is if they wear their sweet 90s retro jerseys).

Edmonton over Vegas (Knights only chance is the Oilers wearing those God awful dark blue with blaze orange 3rd jerseys…After thinking about it Dallas also has equally shitty black neon green garbage).

Toronto over Florida (this iteration of the Leafs jerseys is my favorite…And I really don’t like cats either).

Carolina = Washington (both jerseys are meh…Now if the Canes went with the Whalers gear and Caps went 80s retro…).

I had Florida, Carolina, Washington, Vegas right. Thought the Leafs would choke against Ottawa and LA would finally beat the Oilers. Dallas/Colorado i was 50/50 on and my head said Winnipeg should beat St. Louis but I homer picked St. Louis on my bracket.

Vegas beats Edmonton, ill say in 6 because McDrai can single handedly win a few games. Florida beats Toronto in 5, that'll likely be a short one. Dallas/Winnipeg is a longer series than it should be because Dallas doesn't know anything else. Carolina/Washington is the one im not sure on, probably goes 7. Ill say Washington wins

Panthers over the Leafs. I think the Panthers are the best team in the league right now. Thought the Lightning would give them more trouble, but the Panthers are just too good, with across the board depth, and made some big additions. I can't see it going more than 5.

Hurricanes over Capitals in 7. Good teams, but I like the Hurricanes very strong top-9. Capitals have a good team and could do some damage on an aging defensive core.

Oilers in 6. McDavid and Draisaitl are too much and they showed in game 6 they have scoring depth. But without Ekholm it's a hard bet.

Stars in 6. Without Morrissey or Scheifele I don't think the Jets can pull off a series, unless Hellebuyck goes Vezina-mode.

In the first round I did not post my picks, but I went 0 for 4 in the west and 4 for 4 in the east.

Just realised that I picked the team I want to win to be eliminated in every match-up. Well, I guess if I'm wrong I will at least be happy about it.

Great minds think alike those were my exact predictions. Only prediction I disagree with is stars beating jets, but I'm obviously biased on that one.

Florida over Toronto in 6. Should be a close series and Toronto does a lot of things well but not quite as good as the Panthers.

Washington over Carolina in 7. Don’t think that the Caps are quite as good as their record suggests but they’re a nightmare in a seven game series. Big and mean team, Carolina reaches their wall.

Edmonton over Vegas in 6. McDrai is too good and I don’t think Vegas is as sound this year.

Winnipeg ofer Dallas in 7. Playoff hockey is random so why not.
