okay but they didn't do anything either. there was no fight. same thing in the oilers game.

it's one thing to deserve to win the game and lose because of bad calls, it's another thing to not deserve to win the game and lose because of bad calls.

1. I’m not sure why you mentioned that (to me)? I’ve never talked about “blowing up the core”.

2. We’ve also had instances where we weren’t clutch. That is one of the reasons we are 8-9-1 now. Not sure why Green would discuss “situational awareness” if there were no issues or concerns. And Green mentioned responding to bad call & goal situations. The advanced stats are OK, and I don’t (& many others) need a lecture on that. But, it still boils down to wins ultimately.
1. I wasn't referencing you.

2. Yes, there is room for improvement, that's what I said.

Exactly. That was a very winnable game, made very difficult to win by the refs.

I wouldn't say "we deserved to win" against the Canes, but we also didn't deserve to lose. It was a close 50/50 game (or maaaybe 55/45), which is basically the best anyone can hope for against the Canes in their own barn.

It will be difficult to blow up the core.

COVID contracts got signed in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and are typically 5-8 years. And many are backloaded to escape the escrow and to alleviate teams from shelling out big dollars as they dig out of the COVID financial mess.

It means that many players have 3-5 years left at true dollar values above their AAV. Best examples are any of the 8 year contracts the Sens have. All are backloaded. Less, Sanderson, I think. He may be true salary = AAV throughout.

And so dollar matching, remaining time will make it difficult to orchestrate trades.

This core is here to stay for another year..it is unlikely anyone is moved before 2026.

Who we have, we have. The core 14-16 guys will have to dig themselves out. All other moves will be peripheral moves.

1. Edmonton game - The score (5 - 2) didn’t indicate that, so there’s a difference here in what constitutes “fine” or how people define “fine”.

2. Disagree. The team can respond and bounce back after a bad goal (or goals in more extreme cases) that is allowed by a goalie. Responding to a bad goal by scoring is part of a situational awareness response. I think that was covered by Staois in the presser as well.
Or not allowing another goal shortly after due to defensive breakdowns or pinching at inopportune times. He talked about that too (allowing goals in bunches).

well didn't match the eye test. these numbers are like famous deserve to win meter,

carolina gave the team nothing. the senators didn't manufacture anything either.

their rando goalie got a shutout without stealing it or even making any difficult saves.

those numbers just prove how bs numbers can be.

//

i went back to watch the highlights in case i was misremembering, and one of the few offensive chances they showed of Ottawa in the first 2 periods was a limp back hand from basically behind the net. i didn't misremember. that game was a no sweat game for the hurricanes.

I mean the Canes didn't get any good chances outside of the Blake goal (Which shouldn't even have happened thanks refs). Canes controlled Ozone time, but was shooting from everywhere rather generating super dangerous chances. The first goal was super soft. Aho had the perfect shot, which is more of a skill than generating an excellent chance.

not impressed with the money spent this summer by Staois. I said it before but Perron is a huge head scratcher.

So it's clear he's too inexperienced and too much going on at home to do BOTH president and GM role.

When are we going to hear about filling one of those positions so he can get some help????

How does this man hire someone he hasn't watched in years...

It was clear he couldn't skate anymore last year. Now it's just sad. He is the slowest forward we've had in a long time.

Watching a loose puck be much closer to him than anyone else on the ice, yet he took 2 strides and didn't move at all and someone one from the other team just sped by and grabbed the puck like he was playing with a toddler who is just happy to be on the ice with his older brothers...

He's done. That's all I needed to see. Good thing he's here for 4 million next year too! We'll have to open a geriatrics ward in the CTC.

Rebuild with CHL players, never liked the U.s. college kid thing, thought it would never work long term and it isn’t.

These college kids don’t want to here, that’s obvious. Pinto was backhanding the city in a podcast preseason, none of the college kids live here, we know the Tkachuk family history.

CHL players, Swedes and Slovaks, and right shot Russian Dman who can’t speak English. That’s the Senators way

Gaudette has been shocking. He has been a surprise. 8 goals 1 assist.
Jensen has played decent.
Cousins 4 points
Perron 0 points.
Amadio 4 points.
Those two are veterans who were brought in for leadership.
Ullmark 3.10. 0.881 signed to 4 years
Travis Green? Is he getting the most out of the players? Not so far.
Can he? Time will tell
I wonder what Staios and Poulin are thinking right now. It must be like watching a train wreck for them. Times like these separate the men from the boys. Leadership always starts from the top of an organization. When we had Melynyk and Dorion we saw what happened.
Now we have a new regime. We will see if they are leaders or watchers.
3-7-1 in November.

We need more from these guys. We need secondary scoring.
Giroux 4 pts last 14 games.
Greig 3 pts last 14 games
Sanderson 4 pts last 14 games.
Perron 0 pts 9 games
Pinto 0 pts last 6 games.

Is Steve still evaluating?

Early returns are all his philosophy about the team, the coaching staff and all the off season moves besides Gaudette and Jensen have failed.

I like Staois but WTF? He got the core evaluation so wrong. How could you have a bottom 5 NHL after all your work? Even worse than last season. And Pierre Dorion and DJ Smith were the coach and GM last season. Yikes
