Confirmed with Link: UPDATE: Contract Terminated - Arizona signs Alex Galchenyuk - 1 year, 2-way, 775k contract

I don’t see how management could be at fault with this. They signed him, he did something or it came out that he has done something bad, and they cut ties to get ahead of it. It’s not mental health or substance abuse because they would have put him in that program. He did something bad.

Guess we’ll see

Is it just finally coming out that he was a Habs double agent in the 201 series against Toronto, maybe?

Mike Ribeiro pt 2?

He would go into the SA program if that was the case.

Reads to me like he has some sort of ongoing legal situation that he didn't disclose. The allowed paths to termination when it's not mutual are pretty narrow for clubs. I just hope there are no victims.

Does this team ever, ever do it due diligence?

There do seem to be some concerning blind spots in the organization generally.

Something that spurs the team to an outright contract termination 12 days after signing has got to be pretty damned bad for them to be willing to take a PR hit this big, not to mention risking running afoul of the NHLPA. If it wasn't serious, they'd just bury him in the AHL for the year.

“Coyotes had discovered an "off-ice situation" impacting Galchenyuk that was previously unknown to the team.”

Sounds like he failed to disclose an issue when he signed, that would’ve caused them to otherwise not sign him if they had known.
I mean, does the team or do teams run background checks or rely on players/agents to be open and honest?

Strange.

Does the team really have to tweet about the contract termination? I mean if the organization is at fault, would they? And if it's to get ahead of the story, the 'no further comment' would not be enough.

Common sense would say that when you're dealing with salaries starting in the high six figures, you would run background checks, do due diligence, etc. That's how it works in regular business. But this is sports, and there is an incredible amount of leeway in those areas that you won't find for "normies" because of sheer amount of revenue they generate for the organization. Also, with the nature of trades and so forth, sometimes things happen too fast for a really good background check, so a lot of these decisions are made with the gut rather than information.

That said, a well-run organization would definitely have sussed out something really serious.
