UNB Reds Thread (Part5)

Kind of getting a little antsy about the '25 recruiting class. I know the Carruthers kid is semi-official (LOI, right?), but so far the only two *announced* are Barnett and MacPhee and, IDK, who is even out there?

Im 95% sure Liam Arnsby is coming .

Obviously this year is extremely different but this is the earliest I can remember UNB announcing anyone officially in a while … I wouldn’t hit the panic button yet

It’s still early…the last few years have been the exception with names and announcements coming out early. Most years we wouldn’t hear anything official until later in the summer. I suspect that might be the case this year with all the uncertainty.

Honestly UNB is in a lot better shape than I think people realize … Everyone else is taking a hit in terms of recruiting etc as well…..

F- Huckins , Reynolds , Morgan , Blagden , Baber , Petizian , Dubois , MacPhee , Carruthers (9)

D - Kammerer , McGinley , Mancini , Savoie , Nolet , Barnett (6)

G - Delafontaine , Fisk (2)

Rumoured Out - Peer
Rumoured in - Arnsby (F)

I don’t think Carson is back but haven’t heard/seen anything official .

Even if you throw 3 Jr.A guys to plug forward spots that team is still likely contending for a spot at nationals in a normal year and my gut tells me that those spots are probably labeled for pro guys or guys losing an NCAA spot .

Have they lost a ton of talent? Yes. Are they going to replace it with comparable talent? No. But the way I look at it is this...the last two years their goal differential has been +123 and + 125. The next closest team was at +9 and +36, respectively. They could score a full goal less AND allow a full goal more, per game, and still lead the league comfortably. They are starting at such a higher level than everyone else that they can take a hit in talent and will still probably be the best team in the conference…it might just mean they win games 5-3 instead of 6-2.

That’s 100% true but it’s also not like they are bringing in total scrubs , MacPhee has the same point/game his overage year that Drew Elliott had and Barnett played D.1 hockey and is an NHL draft pick . Go compare that to the average recruit this year and it isn’t close .

They announced the Beauséjour team today… I’d originally heard it was going in the Junction but they seem to be implying otherwise … Maybe I’ll get my wish of high level hockey at the LBR…

LBR would be tough - likely Grant-Harvey. LBR already hosts FHS Girls, FHS Boys, FYHA U18 AA and FHYA U18 A - there really are no free Fri/Sat/Sun ice-times at that rink.

Easier to slot them into the blank spots left by the Red Wings at GH and more parking.

That said, if the new team wants concessions ($) - that would require them to use LBR or strike a deal with the Lions Club at GH. If they want all of the concessions, then the LBR is the place to be (no one 'owns' the canteen rights at that rink). I could see a swap where the FHS or FYHA pair (more likely FYHA) would move to GH to free-up LBR for senior

The current tenants at GH are STU Women and U18 AAA Female Western Flames (who play in the NS league, so they are away a lot).

Teams already said it won’t be Grant Harvey , so that leaves O’Ree , York and LBR.

I can't see it being O'Ree. They already have LHHS Girls, LHHS Boys and U18AAA and it's designated 'special events' rink (so you can get kicked out by the city). Same problem with concessions.

York could work (parking would be a *&^%#), but they don't have concessions/canteen - it was turned into the staff room (ESA has a table set-up for their games selling Hot Coco and snacks - not sure that works for Senior). It hosts ESA Boys on Friday nights with U14AAA/U15AAA on Sat Night/Sun Afternoon each weekend.

I can see some musical chairs happening where someone moves to the GH to open up LBR or York - LBR is looking more likely.

Since GH is out and O'Ree is highly unlikely, I hope it is the LBR. No one wants to go to York.
Wherever it goes Im just glad we have something to kind of fill the niche as the secondary hockey option in the city now that the Red Wings are gone …
I love UNB but 15 home games plus playoffs isn’t enough hockey for me…

I really miss the Tommies ….. 🙁
