UNB Reds Thread (Part5)

OT but apparently Fredericton Junction is getting a team in the Beausejour League this year (the former River Valley franchise) … It’s really good hockey , full of ex AUS , Q ,and MHL guys. Plus 2 ex NHL’ers (Patrice Cormier , P-A Parenteau)

Definitely better hockey than the SSHL team that was playing there before , when Tri-Co and Grand Lake joined that league as expansion teams Grand Lake honest to god were scouting my pickup Monday noon ice time (and picked up guys from it , mind you they never won a game) but this is real legitimately good hockey.

30 mins from my front door , if this comes true it will definitely fill the void of the Red Wings as a second high level hockey option to go watch for me for a year or two until the team inevitably runs out of money.

I completed a huge change to vredshockey.com this past week - albeit it's all in the background (tooting my own horn).

I moved all of the player and goaltender stats to a MySQL database and now each player's stats page is built dynamically from a query. All of the players still have their original code, just a single program to build the page using that code. I was getting tired of using the original DBase III/QB64 (basic) solution I had originally built in 2000-04 - I needed to move into the 21st century. It's also easier to fix mistakes and make updates.

This also meant updating the Players by Letter pages, Team Roster pages, Career Top 50s and I also expanded the Career Goaltender Top 10s at the same time.

It took 2-3 months over the past year to get this wrapped up, but now it's done - thought I would share. IF you see any issues or glitches - let me know.

Also - if you hadn't seen. On RedSEA, for 2003+, the season stats wrap-up now has stats on UNB scoring first and the outcome.

We definitely appreciate it , in the late 90’s and early 2000’s when most kids were playing games on the computer , I was being a total nerd spending hours scrolling through stats on your site. Thought it was so cool to find my dad’s buddies stats etc…

2+ decades later I’m still on it at least once a week checking something.

Just looking at FISU 2007. You missed Joe Glenn as equipment guy. I was also there doing video, but was not part of the team because there was not a spot for video coach. I paid my own way and got a pass as a FISU VIP. I believe the picture shown was taken by me. That's why I'm not in it.

UNB is hosting 3 Saint John Sea Dogs regular season games, in addition to one Moncton Wildcats pre-season game.

Sunday, November 30th, 2025, at 3:00pm vs. Cape Breton Eagles
Thursday, January 8th, 2026, at 7:00pm vs. Gatineau Olympiques
Sunday, February 1st, 2026, at 3:00pm vs. Baie-Comeau Drakkar

It's one thing to host a preseason game, which is basically a rookie game. QMJHL Regular season games require more technology, will be interesting to see if the AUC is getting anything permanent

I hope they do some sort of add on with season tickets , pay extra on your pass and reserve your seat for those 3 games … Either way , inject all the live hockey possible into my veins.

Btw, in case folks weren't aware, Cole MacKay did graduate with his BBA (4.2 GPA?) and will be moving to Toronto later this summer to attend Chiropatric School. He received another award today, but I don't want to get ahead of the official annoncement.
He was one of the easiest guys to come through this program to cheer for ..

No one was ever going to outwork him, he exceeded every expectation I had for him when he arrived and from everything I hear the guys on the team absolutely love him.

To get regular season games is surprising. I guess attendance hasn't been very good in Saint John the past two seasons.

According to Station Nation (Jamie Tozer) the Sea Dogs will wear jerseys honouring Fredericton’s AHL teams. I have to imagine it will be the Express since the Baby Habs wore Montreal Canadiens jerseys ….
My bank account will hate me but I’m 100% getting my hands on one.

Also mentions that they are in negotiations with Harbour Station on a new lease and that this could be a negotiation tactic.

They need a camera over the net for Goal Review. It's easier now than in the past due to the numerous 4k camera options available. Mounting can be a challenge, but the AUC roof has a lot of load points to choose from. Not sure it needs to stay - AUS/USPORTS does not mandate it.

11.3 starting on page 22...there is video review protocol for men's hockey University Cup, which the AUC will be hosting in 2028. Don't see video protocol for the women's tournament (yet), unless I missed it but I suspect it will come at some point. UNB hosts women's nationals in spring 2027.

I was going to say, I seem to recall a video review in Ottawa this past year .
