It was promising to hear MacDougall say in his press conference that this year's recruiting class might be one of the better ones....I'm sure there are some guys who aren't fully committed yet, or guys they might be waiting on to see if they go pro, so hopefully the coaching staff can finish what MacDougall may have started.

Just looking at the guys who are rumoured - Reynolds, Arnsby, Dubois, Plandowski - based on their style of play and numbers, they seem to be natural replacements for Gilmour, Nurse, Willms, and Landry, respectively. They would just need to find a "replacement" for Keating. By my count there are about 18 players available who put up 70+ points in the CHL last year, so if they can get one of those guys then I think they'll be in really good shape going into next season.

Has anyone heard anything on Adam McCormick? If he returns, they are incredibly good on the back-end. If he doesn't return, they are still very good.

Haven't heard anything. I know someone had mentioned that they thought he might be done, but I would have to assume he will be back given he has only played three years.

If he is indeed back, they can roll McCormick/McCallum/Savoie/Kamerrer/McGinley/Nolet/Kyte?? (is he expected back for another year?)/recruit....that's a pretty stacked defence corps even without Landry.

Outhouse signed in France with Briancon. Well deserved.
As mentioned, there are only about two real good CHL goalies available. Hopefully they can get one of them. If not they may need to look at former pro guys.

The absolute best case scenario (IMO) is that they somehow get Rousseau with the intention of him being the backup/1B this year and move into the starting role/1A next year.

Kyte is moving on pursuing opportunities in Europe. Everyone else is back that you mentioned though. Plandowski is a hot rumor to be joining the big RED machine this season.

Outhouse came in as a former pro guy so I like that option as well if CHL goalies don't work out.

Not directly UNB related but the Sea Dogs will be hosting an exhibition game at the AUC on August 23rd against Cape Breton. I thought we might see a Wildcats game since MacDougall is the new head coach but the pre-season games were probably already booked.

I agree. The Sea Dogs have had exhibition games at the AUC in the past. I guess they consider Fredericton part of their market base. Going forward I expect we will see the Wildcats schedule exhibiton games at the AUC.

Interesting schedule for UNB next season:
- 18-12 split, as expected
- 3v2 split (3 vs opponent before break, 2 after), expected but not always possible - great to see
So, overall, a well balanced schedule.

UNB opens vs DAL on 4th. First time in 10 years (since - 2014/15) and only the third time in 25 years.
UNB ends the season vs UdeM (on the road) for the second time in 4 years.

Some odd items
- Both games vs UPEI, after the break, are at home
- Both games vs UdeM, after the break, are on the road
- There are no B2B Road/Home weekends (eg. DAL/SFX on the road followed by DAL/SFX at home). This had been the 'standard' for a number of years. Instead, it's blocks of games vs NS teams with the order changing each weekend (if the first weekend was ACD-SMU, the next time they visit it's SMU-ACD, so they are mixing up who-plays-who on the second night within the half). This is likely a push to be fairer - in previous seasons the pairs would remain the same in the first half, then only swap after Christmas. Now they are swapping the order the next time they visit.

eg. DAL/SFX, at Home on Oct. 4/5, then SFX/DAL, at Home on Oct. 25/26 then DAL/SFX on the road on Nov. 25/16 - after the break the next two meetings are DAL/SFX followed by SFX/DAL

Toughest stretch - Nov 8/9, Nov 15/16 & Nov. 20, 5 road games in a row: SMU/ACD, DAL/SFX & PEI (I said something similar last season and AUSFan said to get back to him when they went 5-0 :sarcasm:)

Q teams are down to 6 games in the preseason, usually 3 home and 3 away.

Moncton has a traditional "home" game in the preseason played in Bouctouche, this year is on Sep 7.

Aug 20 Wildcats home ex. game is still TBA for the location

The other is a meet-ya-half-way game against Halifax in Springhill NS.

The August preseason games feature players who are mostly rookies and unlikely to be on the roster for the season.

Sat Oct 26 vs Dal
Sat Jan 25 vs X
Both listed as 4pm starts

Sat Nov 30 vs SMU
Listed at start time TBD

No Moncton home games this year at 4pm,

My theory last season was to allow an NS opponent to get home earlier on Saturday night. I'm not sure about that reasoning anymore.

Not a fan of the 4pm start times myself. Definitely do not see an increase in attendance.

During hockey season the HNIC early game starts at 6:00 CT. So for me a 2:00 or 3:00 start time would be okay. Still, I'd sooner go back to the days when the games were at 7:00.

It does take away from my Saturday afternoon "free time" but I think the goal is for parents with kids to take in a game and get home earlier before their bed time. Maybe not a bad idea, but I don't believe they promote and market that fact enough to the casual or not-yet fans. So far I don't recall much of an attendance bump for the young 'uns.

With most of the 3rd year guys (based on eligibility) moving on…any word if Carson, Somers, and King are expected back next year?
Somers isn’t back, not sure on King but I know he’s in town because he skates after my pickup ice time on Mondays lol.

I know Nurse , Landry and Keating were all in their 4th year of school as was Carson so he’s probably not back unless he’s doing more schooling .
