I liked what I saw out of UPL vs. the Kings. He looked more like the goalie they gave this deal to. I hope he may have turned a corner and be pretty darn good this year.

A lot has changed in three weeks. UPL has succumbed to the same suck that consumed the rest of the roster before him, and Buffalo is back in the bottom 3 again. UPL now rocks a 3.00 GAA and 0.896 Sv%.
With Levi the clear future in net, does it really make sense for the Sabres to hang onto UPL while they rebuild the rebuild? They're at risk of doing what the Ducks did with Gibson and wasting the value of a cost-controlled starter.
What teams could offer up a tempting enough package built around a worse goalie who can be a warm body for 50 games plus the futures/young players needed to make it worth it for Buffalo?

Levi is not the clear future and trading UPL for anything less than a comparable goalie is franchise suicide.

When it comes to the issues on the Sabres.....UPLs play might be last on the list.
He's a legit starter in the NHL who is capable of stealing games. We should hold onto him until Levi proves beyond the shadow of a doubt he's ready.

UPL not problem, we're not rebuilding, Levi's not ready yet and he doesn't have any magic key to the starter in Buffalo.
Levi's not ready. Luukkonen is fine where he is, affordable and mildly capable. Levi's NHL games this year have been rebound-fests and show how he needs to keep getting practice and game reps at the AHL level.

I agree, UPL rarely lets in a bad goal and its tough to blame him when he does because I am sure he is shell shocked.
UPL is solid enough to win with and will probably win team MVP.

I agree. UPL is not a problem, but even he can't cope with it, he has had some not very good games lately.
