Post-Game Talk: Ugly way to go into a break

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Also - very far from the reason we lost, but Garrett Rank can go f*** himself. Someone needs to tell him to do us all a favor and focus on golf so he can stop ruining hockey games.

That 5 on 3 they got would simply never be handed to us ever on calls like that. Ever. At that’s just a part of a long list of bullshit from that idiot tonight.

Absolutely fair point.
They shouldnt have allowed so much open ice to let the Avs generate that much speed.
Total pond hockey and the Oilers dont have the speed to match the Avs in that kind of a game either.

Meh, we've beaten them twice this year, they barely eeked out this one by a goal, McDavid scores on that breakaway 8/10 times, they were fairly lucky there and Stu gave them a couple of gifts.

I can imagine him struggling in the same way any other goalie who's rolled through here over the past 30 years has. The good will be expected but the bad will be overemphasized.

Obviously, the cost would be exorbitant and the cap impact would mean we don't have the necessary cap or trade capital to address the other areas of the roster.
All I’ve been hearing is the media yap about Trent fricken Frederic. That’s my issue. Spending valuable cap space on those type of players that don’t even move the needle. The team won’t go far in the playoffs with this poor tandem. Needs an upgrade, it’s as simple as that imo. Of course making the trade isn’t simple. But I can’t stomach another playoffs where skinner sieves and f***s over the team again. Especially in bargain contract years with both McDrai

If it just want to fast forward the game on my PVR when Skinner let's 2 clean shots in i can't imagine how deflating it must be as a player. He was garbage tonight yet again. Get a starter please.

Credit to Knob pulling the sieve.

We need MacT to bring the Jam to this team. Way too much butter right now.

The people in the "goaltending doesn't matter because it's been so long since I've seen a good goalie that I don't even know what one looks like" camp also don't understand the toll bad goaltending takes on this team.

They fight back *a lot*.

If Bobrovsky had started the Finals with 3 sub .900 games, and we were up 3-0 ... does anyone think Florida's core group would've dug down and battled back to make it 3-3? f*** no. They'd have maybe won one token game to avoid a sweep and then peaced out. We'd be lifting the Cup in game 4 or 5.

Frankly I honestly don't blame McDavid if he is pacing himself this regular season, the record this team can achieve in the regular season is basically hamstrung by the goaltending, you're not likely going to win a President's Trophy or even Western Conference and individually there's not much to play for, why kill yourself playing balls to the wall.

I don’t think it was an issue of not being able to manage their speed, it was more an issue of being unable to recognize who was on the ice and manage positioning and the puck accordingly.

We were horrendous at both blue lines and horrendous in the neutral zone. All completely preventable with an ounce of game planning and discipline, but instead we decided to play the best rush line in hockey like it’s an all star game.
They were inviting them to pond hockey from the get go.

The Avs broadcast was saying it’s a race to 6 goals.

To think we almost lost to the nucks last year in round 2 because skinner decided to go full out sieve mode. We can’t afford that again this playoffs. You go all in while McDrai are in their bargain contracts before the big $$$$ contracts come flying. Get a f***ing goalie. Idc who it is. Run Skinner/Pickard again and it’s asking for another wasted playoffs. I’d rather spend valuable cap space on a goalie than use it another f***ing useless Bjugstad/Carrick because moar size moar grit moar angry

IMO, Bob wouldn’t finally say this if it hasn’t reached management’s awareness. Upgrade the f***ing net.

I have said it many times already. Holland kicked this team in the junk when he signed Campbell.
It was so impactful the team hasnt recovered from it 3 years later.

Management now seems determined to make the lowest cap space tandem goalies in the NHL work in the playoffs.

I agree with you. But if what Bob said is true from what I posted above, hopefully that has finally woken up management to realize they cannot run this current tandem into the playoffs again. Give this team even average goaltending consistently and it’s a cup threat. No excuses for the team to be good in all areas (even fricken defensively) and to be let down by goaltending majorly. Gibson or Vejmelka, let’s ride.

Pierre Lebrun-

"I do believe John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks would waive his no-trade clause to go to Edmonton. So there’s that. But it sure doesn’t sound like Bowman sees goaltending as an area of concern."

Bowman-
"Our goalies have been great So, I'm not sure where that comes from. We certainly believe in both of them, and we think they've been a big part of why our team has been so consistent over the last several months here," Bowman said.

Bowman then realizing post game that he ate his words after watching another piss poor goaltending performance by Skinner tonight.

I mean I would say the same thing publicly in his position too, but I certainly wouldn't believe it. If Anaheim feels like there's no market for Gibson and we only "kinda" need him, the price will be cheaper and likely they'll be more willing to retain some salary rather than having to pay all of it.

Now if he actually believes that, then he's an idiot.

Let's f***ing hope so. Add to this that Talbot's play dipped heavy when he became a dad to twins (IIRC). Struggling + having less sleep, etc. (possibly) because of a newborn would be pretty hard on a guy.

This is the best defense / systems the team has had in those 30 years. Surely a goalie can do better than the pile of mediocrity they get out of these two?

Me as a fan is just asking for competent goaltending and that is Gibson or Vejmelka. Give me one and I’d be very happy. Run skinner and Pickard again, and I’d be making my nearby liquor store more money.

Yep. Why bother paying the cost for a good goalie when we can use that to sign the likes of Trent fricken Frederic. The team is good in most aspects of the game aside from goaltending. Address the net as top priority. Worry about the Frederic players of the world after which are plenty of dozen and shore up the net.

In all honesty Talbot's play more likely dipped because Klefbom's shoulder turned to toast, we lost Sekera (effectively), and Adam Larsson had his father pass away suddenly which threw his game off. That's our entire top 3 D at the time.

That's not exactly a mystery.

Stuart Skinner has no such excuse, the D is about the same as it was last year, the defensive system overall is better than the one McLellan played, and this is a much more mature group overall.

The other thing is Talbot's twins were born in Oct. 2016, the year he had his best season here, so if anything that didn't hurt his game.

What’s hilarious is that an old ass Talbot has a better save % than Skinner. Our team is excellent offensively and relatively well defensively yet our goalies are the Achilles heel. Upgrade that f***ing net.
