At this point I'm not sure if I would be relieved or pissed off if Connor has a lights out tourney.

Yeah people here can just knock off the idiot parent who beats their kid because they got an A instead of an A+ routine.

Pts/game vs goalies this season:

McDavid 1.48
Draisailt 1.45
Kucherov 1.43
MacKinnon 1.32

Look at who's no.1 even this season and tell me who that is.

win what actually?
I get helly love in the reg. season, but when it matters?? he is one of, if not, the worst high pressure performers I have witnessed,

I am talking about the regular season, there's no reason for McDavid to go out and gas himself in the regular season when Skinner/Pickard will just throw it away anyway, the Oilers are kinda locked into the range they will finish the season in, .900 goaltending isn't going to win you the Western Conference.

What exactly do you think are they're problems? I get that more depth is always great, but they're top 5ish in almost all defensive and offensive metrics and not even league average in any individual goaltending metric. There is a glaring hole on the team and it's not the forwards or defense....
Honestly? You got me. But we've run every single one of them out of town. Goalies struggle in Edmonton historically. And it's exceptionally rare for this team to develop their own.

I don't necessarily buy the metrics you see guys putting up on other teams either. I'm not convinced that you could scoop a guy like Logan Thompson this season and have him replicate his results in this market. Alternatively, I could see a guy like Cayden Primeau being a reasonable buy low despite the fact he's been a sieve at the NHL this season.

Beyond disappointing game to go into the break. No answer to stop Nate, made us his bitch. Team that played last night had all the energy in the third. Embarrassing effort the last 25 seconds, zero effort to get the puck in the scrum. More questions than answers after this one.

We allowed him to make us his bitch, which is the worst part.

So Gibson doing well in a shit Anaheim team especially for a team that’s horrible defensively. Imagine him on the Oilers who’s been good in all stats including defensively and aside from goaltending? Hmmmmm????
Hmm maybe this is another Blackwood situation?

Paging moron management. Paging moron management.

Then again, an inflatable goalie might be as good as ours

What an ugly f***ing game.
Lot of issues with this team and by luck we’ve been winning lately.

Nice to see the SCF last year cause I don’t think we’ll be seeing it in 2025.

Logan Thompson would do fine here. The defensive structure is very good with Knoblaugh, if it wasn't no chance do we make the Finals. The reality is more likely very much the opposite ... you'd be shocked how many goalies could come here and do well.

Nope, but it's probably a different hockey game is Skinner could actually do his job...
You clearly didnt watch the game.

If you did then you would realize how myopic that comment is.
The entire team (aside from a couple of players) was bad right from the get go.

The score flattered them.

It's called momentum. Allowing 2 atrocious goals changes things. Both can be right

I can't even take anybody serious who remotely thinks Skinner is a solution here. It is so asinine I have no words for it

The oilers don't really make many mistakes defensively, most nights. Their mistakes look bad because they have mediocre goaltending.

Swayman looks absolutely pedestrian this year without the best defense in the league ahead of him. Good defense can cover lots of a goalies shortcomings.

I mean Colorado gave up just as many chances. McDavid had a clear break away, Blackwood made a big stop. Oilers could have scored 5 or 6 too. Sometimes you gotta win a barn burner against a team that also has some firepower, this year Skinner has not be up to the task in games against good teams.

on that short handed goal..
bouchard lackadaisical pass gives the puck to the opponent, ....but the back check to redeem himself was non existent,,,,,his attitude is like "oh well"

.

I was at the game sitting in row 5 right behind the penalty box right in front of where he did that.

He’s a f***ing idiot. There is no way he didn’t see who was around that play, but he still just decided to ho hum it and sling it back blind anyways. If it weren’t the break it would be outrageous at this point to play him on the top unit next game. It might still be outrageous even with the break.

If he can’t stop being an idiot it’s more than past time to make him stop being an idiot.

Sure. The teams flatters Skinner. The guy is a mediocre goaltender on a very good team.

The fact that you'd defend him after that first period just shows how biased you are. The game got away from them because he couldn't do his job.

Shocking that you guys can't just admit he's a mediocre, inconsistent goaltender.

I really honestly think him being from Northern Alberta skews the perception for some people on him hilariously so.

Like if this dude was even from the Calgary area or Vancouver or Sweden or Finland he would have about half the leash he does here.

McDavid has been worse at 5on5 this year than Bouchard.

Hes allowing over a goal against more per 60 than bouchard.

His defensive game might be at an all time low, including his early and rookie years. It’s that bad, and it’s been that way most of the year.

I have been misrepresented so many times now regarding Skinner it doesnt matter anymore.
Im done battling the gang of posters that resemble the slobbering orcs from LOTR when it comes to Skinner.
Think what you want.

The momentum was swinging wildly in that game mostly because the Oilers couldnt properly defend the Av's speed.
I am not and havent said either goalie was good in this game (Skinner especially) BUT the Av's backed the Oilers D into both goalies all night long. Terrible to watch.

Logan Thompson could do just as well here as he did in Vegas. They were fine moving on from him this summer in favor of Samsonov, who's had a track record of inconsistency.

It was Lindgren last year. Where are Thompson's numbers going to be a year from now? Or does a single year of upward trajectory mean that we're dealing with an elite goaltender now?

Caught the last period and then the highlights. Woof.

Those first two goals, esp the 2nd, were pretty bad.

Lots of giveaways.

Was McDavid even playing?

Hopefully this team can rest up and come out strong post-break. I honestly think McDavid should be skipping the 4-Nations Money Grab , I mean "Tournament"
You pretty much encapsulated most of the game from the above points.

It's also becoming more and more clear Skinner's one .914 season now two years ago (when Jack Campbell took the blame for everything) was a mirage.

He was .883 in the playoffs that year. He's been .905 last regular season (riding a team that no.1 in the NHL for 85% of the season), .901 in the playoffs, and now again .900 as we are heading into the 4 Nations break.

He's about a .895-.905 goalie ... no contender should be happy with that range.

I don’t think it was an issue of not being able to manage their speed, it was more an issue of being unable to recognize who was on the ice and manage positioning and the puck accordingly.

We were horrendous at both blue lines and horrendous in the neutral zone. All completely preventable with an ounce of game planning and discipline, but instead we decided to play the best rush line in hockey like it’s an all star game.

Logan Thompson was a .908 last year which is better than Skinner, lol. I wonder if they dealt him because he went to them wanting more starts and with Hill there that wasn't going to happen.

Absolutely fair point.
They shouldnt have allowed so much open ice to let the Avs generate that much speed.
Total pond hockey and the Oilers dont have the speed to match the Avs in that kind of a game either.
