Like Uncle Chael was saying the UFC is gonna be in a tough spot booking Izzy going forward. He’s one of the highest paid fighters in the company and he is beyond being able to headline PPV, or even being the A side of these bigger FNs

He’s still a pretty easy fight night A-side, he’s only lost to bonafide title contenders and we have Vettori still A-siding fight nights. He’s full on gatekeeper status though

This killed me lol

Izzy now lost 4 out of his last 5 fights.

Who would have guessed when he knocked out Pereira the direction their careers would go.
I think that was the final thing on his bucket list and he’s not as motivated since. He’s definitely getting older and can’t handle punishment the same way but we are also talking about a guy who got a DUI like a week and a half before the Strickland fight. Hearts just not in it anymore

The funny thing is he was beating DDP and won the 1st round over Imavov imo…his chin just can’t handle punishment these days and his will to win isn’t there.

Nurmagomedov-Lok Dog got FOTN

Grad and Imavov got POTN. Glad they rewarded Grad for taking on a guy who came in heavy and brutalizing him after losing the first round. He’s a dog. He’s also probably making 10k/10k so that will be useful

I think that is a bit of a cop out and lame excuse tbh.

The scorecards (2 judges) had DDP winning according to our resident AI. But I recall he was doing well in that fight until he got submitted. I thought he was winning the fight. And yeah the 1st round against Imavov he looked brilliant. Easy 10-9 to Izzy.

Funny that he did the same thing as Pereira waving the ref away but then he got knocked out.

He did the stand and bang pose like Max as well, but then ran away and then got submitted against DDP.

He should probably stop doing these other popular moves by other fighters because it keeps backfiring.

I mean what do you call getting a DUI 10 days before a title fight if not unmotivated? That’s not exactly going about things like a guy intent on retaining his strap

His chin has deteriorated after hundreds of fights and gym wars and that’s for sure a major factor too, as are some really bad habits he’s developed (turning your back and running, jabbing at the same time you’re parrying, etc). But obviously he’s not 100% committed to the game if that’s what he’s doing. They did a good job of hiding that news so it didn’t really get discussed much but to me that says a lot. It’s one thing getting a DUI out of fight camp, but 10 days from a title fight?

I think it's a culmination of a lot of things with Izzy, including not being as committed as he once was, but mainly it's what always happens. You start to slow down due to age and the division catches up. It's a tale as old as time.

Also, Izzy was a long reigning champ, but he wasn't a dominant champ. A lot of his fights were on the razor's edge, both wins and losses. Gastelum, Romero, Jan, Vettori, Whittaker 2, Cannonier, both Pereira fights, DDP, and now Imavov were all pretty competitive. Some of those ended in finishes or were relatively clear decisions, but the only fights that were big statements were Whittaker 1, Costa, and Strickland (obviously in the wrong direction for Izzy). Lose half a step and some of those close wins start turning to losses :dunno:
