Pantoja, Makhachev and Dricus at least put on dominating performances and exciting fights, the rest are bad (Jones not based off his performance but due to his out of ring issues and him just being an ass)
I would argue that Ankalaev arguably winning the stand up battle against the best striker in the UFC was helluva impressive, his takedown sucked for a Dagestani though

I just looked at the UFC rankings. Was surprised to see Jan was still ranked 3rd in light heavyweight. His last fight was against Pereira! His next fight is against Ulberg. Even if he wins that fight dominantly no way they do a Jan vs. Ankalaev!

Boring main event. Pereira seemed to be made tentative to let loose due to the take down threat. Ankalaev had a good 2nd round (the most impressive round for either), but I thought that fight was 1-3-5 Pereira. Genuinely no idea how you give 5 to Ank. Pereira landed the high kick that seemed to stun him, landed more shots....but Ank dry humps him against the fence for the last minute or so, so he gets the round?

Only round I thought was questionable either way was 3. And it was close. I just watched 3 again without sound and still think that's Pereiras round.

I had rounds 1 and 5 for Poaton, any or all middle rounds could do to Ank. No problem with the decision except it was boring. Also rip to the drunk bro who kept yelling CHAMA to everyone in the the mens room lol. Overheard him say he had $500 on Poaton 😬

So if not a rematch, what next for each fighter?
If not a rematch Blachowicz-Ulberg and Krylov-Reyes are soon. Which ever winner looks better can fight Ank, the other winner can fight Poaton?

That's absolutely an immediate rematch. Aside from the whole on merit thing and it being a close decision, there's the whole....Ankalaev is boring as f*** and the UFC actively doesn't want him as champion thing.

Pereira is the most intriguing challenger and probably most deserving too. Seems like a perfect rematch.

To be completely honest I have zero recollection of the main event or posting in here, it would appear I live bet Ankalaev way too much and am glad that drunk CDJ made it so he ended up even on the night after losing a bunch of money on Fiziev

Pereira - R1
Ankalaev - R2, R4

The other 3 could have gone either way IMO, so Pereira winning or Ankalaev winning 49-46 is not crazy to me.

Obviously a boring fight, but Ankalaev basically just walking Pereira down and forcing him to be on the back foot was impressive. I guess Pereira was waiting for the takedown attempts.

Kind of torn on how I feel about it. Ankalaev had the biggest moments and Pereira didn't really do shit other than leg kicks, so the right guy won IMO. On the other hand, f***. Ankalaev is so boring.

I guess they do a rematch. The division is so shallow and Pereira has beat the other top contenders. Jan has a claim, I guess, with a draw vs. Ankalaev and a SD loss to Pereira, but he's been too inactive. Plus Pereira is one of the biggest stars in the UFC right now, so when in doubt, the UFC will follow the money.

Didn't get home in time to see it, but Gaethje winning is great. Sometimes you root for the young guys to get some fresh blood in the title discussion and I have nothing against Fiziev, but I love when these old dogs pull it out. Not as dramatic as Poirier KOing BSD, but still.

I just don’t know how you give round 5 to Ankalaev. If you give it to him for the 1-1.5 minutes he held him without doing anything, then are we just ignoring Alex controlling the 3.5-4 minutes of standing time, including the high kick that stunned Ankalaev.

I think the right guy won, he just did it in such a way that I don’t really want to watch him fight.

I don't know why people are giving Ankalaev a hard time. He was the busier, more aggressive fighter. Took more chances. Landed the only shot that actually hurt their opponent. Yeah he tied up Pereira for a few mins late in the fight, but aside from that, he was putting on a much more admirable performance than Pereira, and was the more "exciting" of the 2 fighters in this one. Didn't play it all that safe, had no problem exchanging. Alex did basically nothing but back up and throw leg kicks for 25 minutes besides a few fleeting moments.

The scoring system is the only way Poatan had a chance in this fight, because if you scored the bout as a whole Ankalaev clearly won. Pereira is way more guilty of making this fight boring than Ankalaev due to his backing up, lack of urgency and inability to get off the cage in round 4 and 5.
