team only got to 8x8 recently. initial offer reportedly was lower. Canes then came up to 8x8. have fun analyzing all the depth players they signed today. that is more your speed.
Slightly under. What’s your definition of slightly? Slightly to me would be with 7.75 and 7.95 as slightly under

At this point i think Necas stays and will get a bigger roll. Canes will be looking for gifts from teams trying to get under the cap in Oct.
If you were Guntzel, would you rather play in front of Freddy the sieve or a all star like Tampa has. Canes never addressed their biggest weakness...

I expect the canes to work in young talent. It made no sense to pay 6 or 7 million until these guys are in their late 30s.

Team will take a few years to get back to a cup contender.. it is what it is....

Love Vasi….. he was on a different planet there for a few years and is a world class goalie…. But this past season he had stretches of being very very pedestrian and not anywhere near the world beater he was in the past…. He looked very human giving up 4, 5 or more on some nights… was it related to his back issues and surgery recovery? Will he bounce back and flip a switch and this was a complete aberration? I’m not so sure…..

And players won’t be playing in front of Freddie in key moments this season and beyond…. It will be in front of Kochetkov unless he regresses and is as wildly variable as Vasi was this year…. We will see Pyotr in even more games this year I would expect….. looking forward to see if we see a true number 1 emerge at a stupid good cap hit as the evolution continues….

Just took a quick look at the Canes outlook for the 25-26 season. This is with a $92M cap that I heard speculated by the TSN guys earlier today. There's going to be a lottt of cap space to play with. We'll also likely know by the end of the upcoming season if KK is our #2/3 C or we buy him out, so could be even more cap to play with.

CandyCanes 32 Thoughts On All This:

- This doesn't include Necas or his replacement.
- I've got hope we see either FUS or Nadeau become a top 6 guy the 25-26 season. At minimum I think FUS becomes a solid bottom 4 guy. We'll have 3-4 guys on the roster with ELC's contributing to the team.
- My guess is our shopping list is (2) top 6 forwards (1 being from a Necas trade), a 1B goalie, a 13th forward, and maybe a top pair RD? With around $30M cap space or $34m if KK is bought out.
- We'll have a good opportunity to make significant offer to either Draisaitl, Rantanen, or Crosby if they make happen to slip into free agency. With plenty cap to spare if we do get one to sign here. The outlook on the 25-26 season looks very promising.
- We could do $11/$12m for Rantanen/Draisaitl, $7m for Necas top 6 replacement, and still have $12M cap space to bring in a 1B goalie, possible #1 RD, and a 13th forward.
- A lot of this plan is relying on one of the forward prospects to grab a top 6 role in the next 365 days & Nikishin effectively becoming a top 4D as soon as he steps into the NHL.
- I think we need to keep our heads up. Our "window" probably temporarily closes this year, tho I think we make the playoffs, but are a long shot for the cup. But I fully expect with bringing in a couple top 6 forward acquisitions by the 25-26 season we're right back in as one of the top contending teams.
- That was only 7 thoughts. 8 if you include this one.

Can Kuzy play wing at all? I know KK sucked at W when he first came over but didn't look nearly as bad towards the end of last year there.

Yeah I'd like to try KK as our 2nd line center again this upcoming season. He showed promise in the first 15 games of the season. If the experiment doesn't workout, it's time to trade him or buy him out. We can't have him as a $4.8M guy on the 4th line again.

It’s been a while since we saw this organization really take a step backward. For the longest time they were just treading water and then we’ve had a run of ~5 years of improvement and then plateau.

Today they went backward, significantly. It’s hard to imagine enough internal improvement to offset this; if anything, this group is old enough that it’s not a given that most of the key players will even maintain their current level. Tough to watch and there are a lot of “if”s attached to the idea that they’re setting up for another big run. Feels bad man.

First offseason since 2018 we have to hope for some breaks, good health, guys overperforming, good PDO luck, a prospect or two breaking through.

Kane is definitely the odd man out there but I don’t really want any part of him on the team. Oilers would need to eat money which they won’t
Edit: after some research it would seem he has hip issues and may be ltir’d this season
