I never said the kid was bad, just that I had some trepidation with Detroit selecting him because we haven't seen him play. There's a ton of talent there for sure. My question is, does Lysell have the kind of potential that some here see in Raymond?

I don’t think anyone in this class has the potential that Raymond has, so I guess that kind of answers your question. I get the trepidation though. We are still stuck in limbo missing enough elite talent.

Then if he doesn't have the kind of potential of a Raymond or even Jarvis then I pass on Lysell. The only small winger I would consider taking in the top 10 is Eklund, and that's if we think he can make the jump to center. Otherwise I'd stick to the other names in top tier I mentioned earlier.

Boy does Russia have some nice 2022 players doing well already in this tournament.

Ivan Miroshnichenko W/C
Matvei Michkov RW
Danila Yurov LW

Also 2022 doing well are:
Ludwig Persson (Swedan) C/LW
Lian Bichsel (Swiss) LHD

This is why I don't want to go chasing a similar player (with our first pick). Give me a player that brings a different dimension.

This is why I like Power, Hughes, Beniers, and Edvinsson.

Or if you are going to give me a similarish player, give me a guy that is 6'1" and might be able to play center (Johnson).

See I don't know that I would place Lysell in the same exact category as Raymond. With his skating ability and the pace that he plays at, he's more like Stutzle for me than he is Raymond. That being said, there is a DRASTIC difference between their builds, and Stutzle had the positional appeal in his favor. I think there is a different dimension in terms of play style, but positional dimension is a different story. At the end of the day, he is a smaller winger that you would be looking at primarily for their offensive contributions.

Lysell reminds me a lot of Berggren, and I would have a lot of time for him if we were looking at him in the same range we got Berggren.

But top 10? That's just too rich for my blood.

Michkov is actually 2023 eligible, which is crazy.

I wouldn't complain if the Wings took Svechkov or Chibrikov this year.

If that Michkov kid gets some weight on those bones, he is going to be the next great NHL Russian. Kid is amazing for 16 years old.

Two games of interest today are:

Finland/Russia- lets see how good Finland is compared to the US against Russia (plus have a few Fin prospects to look at)

Canada/Sweden- Lots of talent in this game. Will be interesting to see who performs.

I think his shot is better than Berggren's, and I think he has the ability to win inside more than Berggren, which is why I think he deserves to go higher, but I understand why you would otherwise knock him down a few pegs. He has absolutely no business falling anywhere near where we got Berggren imo

This is the game I have had circled. Should be a good night of hockey with the Wings at 7, and this game at 9.

I just wish there was more of a blend of Eklund and Lysell, if we were to go that route.

With Eklund - I like the production, not wowed by the traits.
With Lysell - I like the traits, have concerns about the production (overall resume/kind of a late riser).

I have the same concern about Lysell's production that I had with Raymond last year. You can see moments where the talent shines, but he just doesn't play enough minutes. But then you see when he gets into an event like this U18 group and plays against kids his age and it's apparent how much better he is.

But even if you could take Lysell's skating and dropped it into the rest of Eklund's game, you are talking about an easy lottery pick in my opinion.

The only thing about Eklund's game that doesn't look elite in comparison to his peers in this draft is skating. The kid is probably the smartest player in the draft, an exceptional passer and a really good shooter when he gets into position. My one (maybe two) gripes about his game is that he doesn't shoot enough, and that he holds onto the puck too long at times looking for the perfect play. I have very little doubt that Eklund ends up in the NHL within the next two seasons and doesn't look like a rookie.

Would you say he has an elite shot or elite puck skills?

I know it has been a weird year, but I still contend that this is one of the worst skating NDTP teams we have seen in a very long time. It really sticks out when you get them outside of the USHL.

Elite puck skills, yes. Not super flashy but like I said before it's very Zetterberg-esque in how he's able to protect the puck and hold onto it. He's slick.

Elite shot, or pretty damn close. The kid has scored some really nice goals from just about everywhere in the offensive zone this year on snapshots, backhanders, a rocket of a wrist shot, and he's got great hand-eye coordination.

The kid would easily be in my top 3 for the draft if he projected as a center. I hope he does convert full time because he could be the best player to come out of this draft. Hell, if we think we can convert him by 2024 that puts him at center in fewer seasons than it took for Zetterberg. I'm OK with that outcome.

Watch the goal around the 1:38 mark. His work on the boards behind the net to set up his teammate, then get into prime scoring position and how he deflects the puck at that moment. Another great deflection at the 3:06 mark as well.

Is there some better FREE stream for Russia-Finland game ?

This video quality in Finland is abysmal and local broadcasting is heard behind finnish broadcasting. Horrible amateur job...

Granted, their probably missing the most exciting transition player in the draft (Luke Hughes), but generally speaking I agree. Most of the top NTDP eligibles this year have not great wheels.

Man... Seeing Lambert and Wright play so well makes me want to bottom out again next year. However, I think we will draft in the 8-12 range next year. Maybe we get some of that overdue lottery luck.
