That was a great game. Sweden just doesn't have enough offensive flair outside of Boqvist, Berggren, and Gustafsson. That said, their depth played pretty well on the backend.

That is sadly what happens when you leave out offensive players for grinders when you pick the team.

Boqvist is a beast.

Is just me or Kevin Bahl is a good skater despite of the size? Where is he projected in the next draft?

I also like how McIsaac is playing.

Bahl was not projected that high, but with this tournament under his belt he should rise in the draft.
I only saw 3rd period, so I can't comment on McIsaac, but glad he showed well from what you saw.

Overall, the Canadians did well against a team that can score - so if you're a player who did not get involved in a Canadian scoring play you may have still contributed immensely by not being scored on by the Swedes.

I did not see the second goal, but the first one Sweden got looked like LaFreniere's line was unable to get back to help cover after an offensive zone turnover? No biggie though - the way Lafreniere is playing, one can forgive pretty much any goals that get scored against his line, hehheh

I'm trying to understand who Finland plays against in the semi-final if they beat Belarus. It is unclear on the IIHF page. It seems like they skipped that part, see yourself:

Information

My understanding is that Finland can't play the Canada-Czech winner as Finland and Canada are now seeded #1 and #2.

If based on seeding from the group phase, then it is:
#1 Finland - 12 points
#2 Canada - 11 points
#3 Sweden - 10 points
#4 Russia - 8 points

My logic says it is Sweden-Canada (assuming the favorites win) semi-final and Finland vs the winner of Russia-USA. Isn't it so?

Finland will play the winner of Sweden-Slovakia, give they beat Belarus.

Hopefully Finland's coaching staff is able to grew balls before Belarus game.
And make clear for every player in the team NO PENALTIES ANYMORE.

Finland has all chances to win gold medal in this tournament.
Those ****ing penalties will cost soon if this team can't calm down.

Especially Kotkaniemi needs to look in the mirror and think again what he's doing on the ice.
That hit which caused Czech players injury and 5+20 penalty for Finland's team was a total brain-fart.

Thank god Annunen saved us today.
But if Finland continues play like this ( taking penalties all the time) they won't celebrate any color of medal in Sunday.

The kid has herited his father¨s hot tempered build up, maybe? If so what can a do? Send him to a shrink or bible camp in the summer time?

Would love a gold medal match up
against Suomi. This group of U-18s for Canada is fairly strong (not Hlinka-Gretzky best-on-best strong though).

Having the Rimouski and Halifax players at the U-18s helps. Seeing the best Canadian forward prospect since McDavid at the U-18s as a 16 year old gives perspective.

As an Oilers fan who has seen every professional game Connor McDavid has played, as well as being an ardent Team Canada historian witnessing every game McDavid has played, I submit the following:

Alexis Lafreniere will be the best forward in the world since McDavid and will likely be (if he develops the way he's trending) the 2nd best player in the world after McDavid in the coming 2020 decade.

Lafreniere is not generational in the way McDavid is (possessing the best skating ability with the puck in the history of hockey, two Art Rosses by the age of 21. Just him and The Great One accomplished that).

Only comparables with respect to skating and puck possession at speeds "head and shoulders" above their peers for McDavid are Orr and Lemieux in that regard. Gilbert Perreault, Valeri Kharlamov, Guy Lafleur, and Pavel Bure in the convo afterwards.

Nonetheless, Lafreniere possesses that "head and shoulders" better than his peers quality. The kid isn't eligible until the 2020 draft due to a late birth year. Not generational, but his hockey IQ, skills, and pedigree to this point makes me comfortable in predicting he will be the best player drafted since McDavid.

I said it before, after McDavid, Lafreniere will be the best forward drafted post Crosby/Ovi era. Matthews, Mackinnon, Laine, Eichel, Barzal, Hughes, Svechnikov, etc. are franchise forwards and/or projected to be franchise forwards.

But, Lafreniere will be the best of that tier after McDavid in the 2020s onward.

It would be an interesting final indeed. Euro rink could make Finland do the upset and it's time to beat Canada in a big final game. I believe Finland never did that in any men's final game nor youth World Championships final game.

I have a strong feeling that Russia will upset USA in the qf. Canada will skate all over Cze.
Sweden-Finland and Russia vs Canada would
be great semifinals (not guaranteed but I predict those are the top 4 teams).

Not saying he doesn’t have a good shot but both of Boqvist’s goal were either deflect or tipped.
