Converting a young forward under 40 games into a left wing is a bad idea. But if he thinks he can do it that's all that matters. I hope he turns out.

According to this Toffoli is staying at RW. If true, Im glad Sutter decided against the LW experiment.

He hasn't decided against it, from that article, (below quote) he's doing the right thing by being cautious. It doesn't rule out TT on the LW, just that he'll not force him to play where he might not be comfortable. He won't know until TT has a shot there in preseason. And that's up to TT, who didn't seem to have a problem with it and in an interview Thursday, said he'd been working on it during the summer.
I think Sutter will do the right thing, but that doesn't mean he won't play LW, just that he won't keep him there if he doesn't seem to fit there or adjust to that side. But until he plays there , he won't know that and that's what that quote reflects.

“I don’t want to set Tyler back. That’s my thinking,” Sutter said Friday. “I’m not going to spend a lot of time. If he’s way better on the right than he is on the left, that’s the best chance. I’m really cautious about that one, because he’s never played it and he’s a good player.”

I dunno.

Sounds pretty definitive to me.

This is Sutter's first training camp and he's said more than once that it will be a very competitive camp. What if Pearson has a great preseason and impresses him enough to give his a shot at LW on 2nd line? He has options...same with Andreoff. From what I've read, he's already been impressive. Maybe he replaces Fraser.
Its' all up to Sutter and where he feels each player fits the best. I just wish Sutter wasn't so attached to King. I actually hope one or more of the kids impreses Sutter enough to replace King . If TT and Frattin are each on a 2nd/3rd line wing. That means King, Nolan, Clifford and Lewis and only 3 wing slots. And that's not including Carcillo. So I'm real curious to see how camp plays out and what Sutter decides to do moving forward.

I don't think it's that Sutter is so attached to King, it's that we have had nothing on the left wing during the last 2 years. He's the 2nd highest scoring pure left winger we have, and he's been pretty successful when the games matter.

Hoping someone else steps up on the left side this year.

It's not being attached to King, it's giving the kid a break. He has played 80 total regular season games at the NHL level. He's a rookie when you really get down to it. And the fact there have been no real other options. There are a few new but when we have 9D it's not those at forward that will be moving it will be D. Including TT we have 14 forwards on the team that's 12 to dress and 2 sitting.
And where we might have some ready in Manchester to move up they for the most part are stuck for one more year. They might get some call ups due to injuries and more looks. But unless we have a trading partner and are very sure they are ready why risk losing some other young player to wavers to move them up.

But where is there a RW spot
open for him on the team, pray tell?

Perhaps they want to generate more offense on the 3rd line and have Toffoli skate with Stoll? That would enable the fourth line to get stronger with Lewis taking shifts at C or RW, depending on what lineup they decide to go with, whether it be Fraser or Nolan who is in/out of the lineup.

They could also play Toffoli on the 2nd PP unit to give him more chances to produce in an offensive role.

A potential lineup with Toffoli on the 3rd line:

Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Frattin-Richards-Carter
King-Stoll-Toffoli
Clifford-Lewis-Nolan
Fraser
Carcillo
