So how in the entire **** has Chara played every game he's been healthy for this season?

I hope the league doesn't settle with its vets, Bettman resigns in disgrace, and the atrocious and imbalanced disciplinary system is overhauled by a third party interested in actually promoting safety and an even enforcement of the rules.

Fair in the context of.... ?

Lupul, who was suspended in March for 2 games after a headshot on Hedman, gets a FINE for INTENTIONALLY CROSSCHECKING A PLAYER IN THE NECK who didn't return to the game, but Myers gets 3 games for a high check for a player who missed one shift?

Either suspend both, or suspend neither.

Ah, but you have to run both plays through Shanahan's filter of 'da Hockee play', whatever that means. Clearly, Lupul's exiting the play unharmed by the long arm of suspension must, must, mean that a cross check to the head is a hockey play. The puck must have been on Eaves helmet in order for Lupul to try and dislodge it from Eaves's head.

As for Myers' hit, his infraction was more of a hockey play than Lupul's lumber to Eaves' head. I get the suspension, but like you and others, it is the frustrating inconsistency that Shanahan and friends wield on a weekly basis. To get back to Lupul, in December Kadri was suspended for channelling his inner moron by clocking Minnesota's goaltender in the head. Lupul recklessly does the same to Eaves - but with worse intent - but I guess because Eaves is not in goal it is allowed. Hmmm.....maybe if you're not in net a cross check to the head is a hockey play.

I was off low by a game. I'm surprised he only got three based on how Shanabum deals with all things Buffalo.

But Lupul was suspended for the head shot on Hedman, no? I'm not going to argue that the ruling on the cross check to Eaves' head was right. It wasn't. But hits like Myers' on Zubrus (and Lupul on Hedman) have churned out suspensions for three seasons now.

It's a fair ruling in the context of similar hits. Absolutely.

Because he plays for the Bruins. Chara is dirty and no its not just because of his height. Watch him closely next time someone goes to check him, he brings his elbow up to their face almost every time.

I'm annoyed by the inconsistency, but I'll take the suspension because DA TANK.

Chara gets away with stuff the same way Mats Sundin did. Dirty **** after the whistle? Who cares. Dirty stickwork? Meh. Dirty checks? HOCKEY PLAY VETERAN SAVVY.

3 games will help the tank. I can live with that. As it's been stated though the lack of consistency is maddening. I don't care about context, the Lupul cross-check was as illegal and suspendable as the Myers hit. What's the point of having a guy like Shanahan make these decisions when the decisions are so hit and miss?

The point is that head shot = suspension. In the context of non-stickwork hits, then yes, similar and fair.

But I think it's a reasonable argument that hitting someone in the head with your stick is just as dangerous as hitting someone with your shoulder.

Viewed by itself, I have zero issue with Myers getting 3. Less than a week after Lupul getting a free pass, I have lots of issues.

Postponement extends Myers' suspension - By Mike Harrington - Buffalo News.

One bad consequence of tonight's postponement is that it will extend defenseman Tyler Myers' three-game suspension that was handed down by the NHL on Monday. Myers was scheduled to miss tonight's game against Carolina, Thursday's visit by Florida and Sunday's trip to Washington. But with tonight's game not played, Myers will now miss Tuesday's visit by Philadelphia as well and return to the lineup next Wednesday in Toronto.

Fixed :)

Seriously, I have no problem with the suspension, though I have an issue with the consistency.

I'm okay with the suspension, but ****ing show some consistency, Chara does this **** all the time and never gets suspended.

I really hope this doesn't take away the edge Myers has been playing with. I trust Nolan will continue to keep him on track.
