Prospect Info: Tyler Kleven (D) at 44th Overall (Sens traded up)

Even if he didn't, I think it's reasonable to be skeptical if Yak can be a full-timer by 2026-2027, especially when dmen take longer.
I see no reason to be skeptical based on the limited pro viewings to date. It’s definitely a position to take when you’re down on the player.

It’s not a guarantee but these top picks likely won’t take more than two years to crack the NHL if they develop at a reasonable rate, and that includes Yak.

I would be extremely surprised if Yak wasn’t in the roster to start the season after this upcoming one. That would mean a major stall in his development.

He didn't have a very good D+1, so I understand the concern.

I also understand the concern, but it is Junior, and he was tasked with working on other elements of his game by his coaching staff and ours apparently.

Those who have been down on the pick since the start will stand at odds with those who liked the pick from the start. It’s all fair play on the forum.

I think he’s going to develop into exactly what we want/need on the right side. Can’t wait to see the kid in camp. I’m hoping this season and the skepticism drives him to have a killer off season.

Super impressed with his game. Trying to find a comparable in the league that he plays like. He has decent offensive instincts and is tough as nails and hits like a truck

Shea Theodore?
Parayko in his earlier years?
Pietrangelo?
Theodore & Pietrangelo are a little more offensive talented & oriented, but Kleven could continue to develop those skills and at least get close. It was a pretty good first year for Kleven and he’ll only get better as he gets more experience & strength.

If he goes ape shit in the gym and comes to camp with an additional 10-15lbs on him he could be a monster next year

Totally agree, and if he takes Ullmarks advice and starts laying some more heavy hits with that extra strength, he would truly be a menace. We really need a heavy hitter on the back end, because right now only Zub throws heavy body checks with any frequency.

He has the tools in his toolbox. It is exciting to anticipate. I remember feeling this way about Jared Cowan. Too bad that did not work out.

Zub is not a heavy hitter. Volchenkov, Chara and Borowiecki were.

Not by past standards of the guys you listed who no longer play, but he hits hard when he chooses too, and is one of the only players on the team whose hits look like they hurt when he does.

It’s not really a compliment, it’s a statement of what we have in that regard beyond Brady.

We need more.

We definitely need more players who play a physical game. Also who can play better without the puck (defensive skills). Plus more offense. Right now we seem to be a bubble team. Adding a few more players might get us to the next level: consistent playoff team.
