I think it's far too early to talk about Graovac as a legitimate top six forward prospect. All this hot streak has done is given him a very good shot at an ELC, something he probably wasn't going to receive if he didn't take a major step forward this year.

Those who watch 67s games have always seen some tools in Graovac (and Steven Janes as well, but to a lesser extent), but the results were underwhelming. He made a guy like Martindale, himself a toolsy but enigmatic player, seem remarkably consistent by contrast. But Graovac's still a long way from emerging as a front-line prospect - the sample size is simply far too small to suggest he has gone from underachiever to blue chipper.

Even if Graovac continues to score all season (at a good rate, but not a goal a game), I'm skeptical until I see him against another type of competition, whether it's the WJC or the AHL.

For 67's fans, can you give a little scouting report on Graovac?

From what I can see, he's a big body who never put up big numbers before this year. It sounds like he has some good hands and a good shot. Does he do the things that bottom six players should (strong defense, physical play, battles for the puck, hustle)? Or is he more a big kid with skill who never put it together before this year?

Not a 67's fan but I've seen him a few times this year. He has, indeed, very good hands and a very good shot. His skating isn't bad - nothing great but he gets to the good areas in the offensive zone.

His size is a moot point, because he doesn't use it at all. I'd compare him to Jason Spezza in that regard - most people forget Spezza's 6'4" because he plays so soft. Graovac is the same.

I think part of his problem is that he's top-six or bust, and before this year he's never shown the consistency of a top-six guy.

I'm not a 67s fan, only catch the odd games, so the legit fans will have way more insight, but from what I've seen it's the bolded. Not a bad two way player or anything, but not particularly physical for his size. His greatest assets are his hands and general skill level, think Jason Spezza in terms of his style, though obviously not as good (Spezza as a 15 year old was roughly as good as Graovac is now, as a 19 year old).

Edit: heh, looks like hototogisu sniped the Spezza comparison as I was posting :)

Graovac

I have watched Graovac since he joined the 67's a few years back, I doubt he will ever be a top 6. At least not with the Wild. I do believe he can be a solid 3rd line centre.

I see him as a poormans Jordan Staal, Graovac has shown at times he can be physical and defensive abilities and of coarse he will be able to help out a bit offencively maybe 10-15 goals and 30-40 pt/year.

Tyler Graovac was the feature piece in the Wild Prospect Handbook that we just released.

Can't post the link here apparently, so visit our facebook page for the link!

For any other 18-year old, it was prom weekend, and it was a time for celebration. A time to celebrate the next stage of one’s life and the next step to one’s true calling.

Some had more reason to celebrate than others.

For Tyler Graovac, it was a time for friends and watching the Minnesota Wild call his name in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Graovac was awesome this year! It was a steal for the Wild getting him in the 7th round.
