It is going to be a contract that ages badly, it is why Yzerman cut bait with him despite Detroit needing good players badly.

I miss Bertuzzi as a Wing big time but his health is a big concern and he's played his way into a big money, long term deal. Some team will be managing around him (contract-wise) for the next 6 or 7 years.

Didn’t see a thread on him but mods feel free to merge if needed.

Bertuzzi is coming off a really impressive run with Boston after being traded last season from Detroit. Health is a big question here but when he’s on and motivated he is a big difference maker on the ice. Had a huge first round against Florida and was very solid for Boston in general after the trade.

He’s 28 y/o so a 7 year deal is definitely an option. Not without risk but Bertuzzi may be looking for more long term security in a contract rather than a 2-3 year deal to then try hit it big.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this guy? What kind of deal does he get and from who?
8G and 22A in 50 games total last year is worth a 7-year deal???

A nice playoff run does not cover that up

ONE nice year . . . this is like buying Upper East Side real estate in NYC . . .

That I don't know. With that amount of term, a compromise of some sort might be necessary.

What's the precedent for a player with Bertuzzi's track record getting that kind of money?

At 6.5, I don't think it's a bad deal. Bertuzzi brings a rare combination of skills that we could desperately use in the top 6.

Do you know of a better use of 6.5 mil that requires no assets this summer?
The precedent is guys like Lucic, Okposo, etc getting $6M or so in 2016 under a much lower cap.

I'm not gonna judge someone on the numbers they did or didn't put up in Detroit over the last 5-7 or so years. Until last year they were basically a dumpster fire.

That's not a precedent, because a) neither of the players you mentioned made the number cited, b) your flawed examples were from 7 years ago, and c) Lucic and Okposo were both much more durable and had much more consistent track records of production that Bertuzzi.

If Bert does make 7.5 mil per or more per on his next deal, it won't be because comparable players have made comparable money before.

Really good player who brings a rare blend of skill and size and speed.

Teams will be lining up to sign him. He will definitely get overpaid however. Something like 7x6.5M.

Size and speed are not what he provides.

Skilled playmaker and some agitation no doubt.

He'd be welcome back on the Bruins if the salary is reasonable. The only UFA I'd like to see return.

Not sure if this is how he is now but he was a physical force throughout junior and before his injuries. I also remember him to have some straight line speed.
