It's already blown up, mostly by accident. It's more about digging out from under the rubble. And no, there's no faith that will be done correctly.
Well at least they have...

Falling hard for Bedard
nah, they went with Torts rather than a rando AHL coach, they'd need to get lucky with ping pong balls for that. Anaheim, Chicago and Columbus are much more efficient tankers right now. Philadelphia could finish anywhere from 4th to 9th to last in the League for lotto positioning.

Ristolainen's decline was downright ridiculous. Yes, I know he has always been an analytical trainwreck and has always been a bad player, but "0 points in 25 games" is a new level of bad for him. He had or paced for between 40 and 45 points from 2015-2020 and got a ton of powerplay points in the past.

I will admit though, Ristolainen has seemingly steadied out a bit after his horrendous start of season with the Flyers. I remember he had like a 12% xGF% in his first 10 games in the year, his analytics still suck but they're a lot less bad than they once were.

He’s seen a massive ice time/usage decrease since coming from Buffalo to Philadelphia. He was playing 25 minutes a night or so at his peak in Buffalo. His most common linemates at 5v5/ES were Bennett & Eichel during those years. He also saw top PP time with those guys as well.

Since coming to Philadelphia he doesn’t play the PP & he’s playing around 18-20 minutes a night on average. He’s played more with the secondary players here at 5v5/ES. Not that our top players are particularly great at producing anyway.

Buffalo also did have him during those years where age curves generally tell us is the most fruitful multi-year window for a player. Philadelphia is getting him as he’s exiting that general age window.

crazy Ristolainen get top 4 mins and have 0 points.

I knew he was having a bad year, but had no idea that he had zero points until I opened this thread.

It's almost statistically impossible that he doesn't have a point yet with the minutes he plays. By now something should have happened to produce even a cheap 2nd assist. It's crazy.

They are both top 6 defenseman for Chuck Fletcher's 27th place Philadelphia Flyers.

Justin Braun, 35 years old - signed to a 1 year, $1m deal on 7/13/2022

Rasmus Ristolainen, 28 years old - signed to a 5 year, $25,000,000 deal on 3/10/2022

The fancy stats people were really vindicated on Ristolainen only being "good" because he played a lot.
I will say for a couple years I was like “he’s still young and he plays for an awful team. Bad combo.” But after awhile it became obvious that the dude has rocks for brains. Which is a shame because he has such an enticing physical toolset.

It’s honestly a shame Buffalo developed him. Dude could have been a really fun and useful player if he landed on a different team. Never a top pairing guy, but still
