Time to bring the topic back up.

Live streams for both boys' and girls' tournaments.
As usual. Wished they streamed j16, j18 and j20 national series too.

Really really bad first period for Gästrikland cost them, even though this is a weaker age group than the 07s I still thought they were at least just as strong as Nord coming into this game.

Also really noticeable how the new underager rule hurts them and similar regions/teams. Missing three players that would have been key(arguably their 2 best centers) born 2010 makes a world of difference here.

Watching how the three first quarterfinals turned out it seems more and more likely that Syd will blitz this tournament. Only Västerbotten(who are by far the most entertaining team) even has a fightning chance at this point, in my opinion.

Praying for a jinx here, but some of the top players of Dalarna have not impressed as much as I've hoped during the first 2 months of the season.

Milan Sundström was completely dominant (especially in the first period) of the qf. Big kid with great overall skills and not a shabby skater either. Seems there are some pretty big bodies with skills among the Swedish 09's.
The ice really tilted when he was on the ice. Too bad he doesnt really have any line mates to match though.. incredible hockey sense, vision and skill on this kid. Once he gets comfortable in his big body, he will be playing against men really soon.

Eklund Aspe & Sundström have been the standouts for me.

Stockholm Syd could use some teamwork. The moment they're utilizing eachother the other team is on the back foot.

Västerbotten is one of the most entertaining teams we've had in this tournament for a while. So much ambition and finesse. Several players worth highlighting for the future.

Syd has to be harder on the physical side. The only place they looked better was around the boards. Play from there and find cross passes or throw in pucks. That where Västerbotten gets the weakest, when they overcommit to pressing them out and loses their guy close to the net.

What are your takeaways from this tournament?

The outcome of the final was a bit surprising, but apparently the best team won.
I was pretty impressed with the talent level this year. There are some real gems amongst this crop. IMO, the top tier is Milan Sundström, Douglas Johnsson and Dorian Eklund Aspe. They can all go really far and have all the tools to become high end players. Eklund Aspe might not have had the best of tournaments, but you could see his skill level and potential. Hopefully Douglas become as big as his dad.

I also really liked Mio Forsell, whom has all the tools neded to become a good player. The Dalarna and Gästrikland talents didn’t have their best games when I watched them, so I will see if I can follow up on them later. I did like Elliot Lahtinen though. As Örebro didn’t reach the playoffs, we missed out of Svante Forsman, Filip Wahlén and Olle Törnqvist whom all have really good stats in J18.

A lot of other players had a good tournaments but I’m not sure about their NHL upside. Jonathan Cremonese has a lot of upside though. A player I really liked, who looked like a can-do-it all kind of player is Sigge Larsson. It doesn’t hurt that his older brother is 6’5 and 215 lbs…and if Sigge also becomes that size…watch out. Another dark horse was Sixten Gustavsson in Västerbotten. Maybe not too much upside, but despite his lanky frame, he was really physical and he could move the puck. Reminded me a bit of Marcus Pettersson.

I have no real clue about goalies. Obviously Carl Johnsson had a good tournament.
