OT: TV Movie Thread Part Iii

The new episode #7 of Government Cheese is brilliant.

I hated the first six episodes of the Studio but episode #7 is so ridiculous I like it. There's something about Kool-Aid that I had to google because I'd never heard it before, although I live in a city that is 69% black, and I love it! :thumbu:

Did he have anything to do with the show? I thought he just did the movie it was based on. BTW, the best Guy Ritchie movie is Rock n Rolla and I will brook no dissent.

He's the EP, directed a couple of episodes, and works with the writers without a writing credit.

I have to check out RNR again. It's been a long time and I don't remember much about it.

My favorite is Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels. He always has a great ensemble cast.
You’re going to force me to say Snatch, aren’t you. Lock and Rock are close seconds

That jump into the pool was something.

I really like the Studio although I can see how the Matt character can be grating. Ike Barinholtz is great.

Snatch would be #2 for me.

Have you seen the Covenant? It was pretty good and the most un-Guy Ritchie movie possible.
Yeah, Lock and Snatch are typically go 1-2 in whatever order. Could have called these movies “cult” - since they didn’t make (relatively) a lot of money when first were released - if they weren’t so broadly popular now.

I am watching all the Mission Impossibles with my teenage son, who hasn’t seen them. Outside of the first 2 I don’t remember any of them. The first is so good, though, because of de Palma and the tone. The 2nd is terrible and John Woo’s style just doesn’t fit the material.

I think MI movies should exist midway between James Bond stunt / set piece-fests and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy realistic spycraft and only the first one truly nailed it.

Tinker Tailor is great.

MI2 was the only one I didn't like. Well maybe the last one, too.

I find them enjoyable for the most part, but pretty forgetful. Although, I love Rebecca Ferguson, so I liked Rogue Nation and Fallout maybe a little more than I should have. I think Sean Harris (Lane) is good in them, too, but I might be biased because he played Ian Curtis (Joy Division) in 24 Hour Party People.

The one with Seymour Hoffman was probably my favorite.

I really liked that one as well. I thought he was a pretty good villain.

The final fight scene was great. Idk if you have seen Bad Monkey, but Michelle Monaghan (Ethan's wife in MI) went from pretty wife next door in that movie to milf smokeshow 18 years later in Bad Monkey.

Fallout was my favorite, it’s awesome pulling up the behind the scenes of Cruise doing the action stunts from the later movies and seeing how they do it.

Agreed on Rebecca, she’s my favorite character from the movies.

Never saw Bad Monkey. Do you recommend it?

Omg. Cruise is insane doing his own stunts. You have to give him credit for authenticity (as an actor) and for being a nutjob. Hanging from airplanes. Flying a helicopter in a crazy chase scene. Scaling incredibly tall buildings. Free climbing. Jumping off a motorcycle from a cliff and parachuting.

He's broken ankles, ribs, and torn his shoulders....similar to my hockey career.

He had to fly 2000 hours in 3 months to become an amateur helo pilot, but then did crazy stunts required from advanced pilots. Oh and he had to act and operate the cameras.

jumping off the cliff on a motorbike. Training with 500 dives and 13,000 motorcross jumps.

It's good, but I wouldn't say great. Also depends on if you like Vince Vaughn. The season went on too long imo.
I'm actually replying to your previous post about your injury-filled hockey career. I always thought of you as an Orr/M. Lemieux blend/hybrid. I had a cup of coffee in an instructional baseball league. It's lower than Class A minor league baseball.

The stunts are cool and all in the MI series but this is peak.

The palpable anger and confusion from Cruise, highlighted by the canted angles as he (and the audience) pieces together how his team got smoked (and why they were actually there) is top notch. He’s a very good actor when given material like this. Compared to the 2nd one where he is doing ridiculous stuff like Guile bicycle kicks to beat up the villains that make Woo’s Hard Target look realistic and grounded, it’s frustrating.

I mean the second one doesn’t have snake punching KO’s like Van Damme but it would have fit in with the other silliness.
