TV Movie Thread Part Iii

I thought on Amazon Prime would be for a rental fee too.

I loved Dexter (fist 4 seasons) but it was too much for my wife. Maybe she'll like this one better
Nope, it's part of their regular streaming. The Wolfman and Black Box just came on Peacock, so they should be on Amazon in another month or so. Black Bag is definitely worth watching.

Yeah, You is more female oriented. She should like it more. My gf watches it. The first couple of seasons are ok. I think it jumped the shark afterwards.

S4 of Dexter was the best season imo. I still liked s5, but didn't care for the last 2 seasons or that sequel. Surprisingly, I liked the first season of Dexter Origins.

Yeah i love Tucci and you already know I'm a Lithgow fan

Would Interstellar be the best movie of this century without Lithgow's character Donald? Debatable. Even Lithgow called Interstellar Nolan's ultimate masterpiece.

Donald: [looking in at Cooper and Murph, who are staring at the dust anomaly on the floor] You wanna clean that up... when you're finished praying to it?

When they went to the Yankees game:

Donald: In my day we had real ball players. Who are these bums?

In all seriousness, Lithgow is great. From The World According to Garp to the Trinity Killer in Dexter to Donald in Interstellar or even Harold Harper in the Old Man. He just adds to every movie/show he's in.

No Third Rock From The Sun? He was great in The Old Man. Too bad it got canceled. The Rule Of Jenny Pen should be on your watch list. It's on mine.

I didn't want to make my run-on sentence any longer. Besides, that list could be pretty long: The Crown, Footloose, Miss Sloane, Terms of Endearment, Twilight Zone movie, The Accountant, This is 40, Blow Out, Pelican Brief, Memphis Belle, Harry and the Hendersons (ha), etc.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt ended up with a pretty good career, too.

I really liked the first season of the Old Man. The second season was a mess. I won't miss it.

In the middle of Warfare and need a break before I restart. Based on an incident in the Iraq War. Said to be one if not the most faithful, technical war filmmaking movies ever. It's stripped of any melodrama and as a result feels even more powerful and dramatic. It's got a great cast with some familiar faces like Joseph Quinn, Will Poulter, and Michael Gandolfini and if anyone watched Shogun, Cosmo Jarvis. Powerful performances all around.

I saw it the day it came out. Good film, good acting and directing (I'm a fan of Alex Garland).

It better be faithful considering it was written by Ray Mendoza who was in the incident.

Not your typical we kick everyone's ass war movie. Interesting intro scene.

Got it, ok. @nyrage seems a big John Lithgow fan so Rule of Jenny Pen should be on his watch list since I heard Lithgow is kick-ass in it.
I like him as a villain but otherwise he's horrible. He's always this wimpy sissy with a whiny voice. If he and Giamatti are so great, why can't they modulate their voices? Answer, because they're not great and I don't care about awards. Jaime Lee Cutis won an Oscar over an obviously better performance in a larger role. It was such a scandal that the actress that should have won got a (well deserved) Oscar Lifetime Achievement award the next year. Many international actors play Americans, and you can't tell.

There's a huge double standard. Actresses must sound good, or they don't get hired. One black actress has won Best Actress and she's very light skinned, the way Hollywood likes their black actresses.

Honestly, I wouldn't consider myself to be a huge fan of his, but I do like Lithgow in several roles. I do think he makes some movies/shows better with his appearance.

I watch a ton of movies and tv. I tend to favor character actors. The ones that may not necessarily be a star, but usually make something better by being in it.

Like Phillip Seymour Hoffman before he got famous. He had a lot of little roles that stood out. Like the rat in Scent of a Woman. Scotty in Boogie Nights. Brandt in the Big Lebowski. Lester Bangs in Almost Famous. All memorable roles to me.

John Hawkes is another character actor I like. John Ortiz, too.

The other day I said something to my friend about you know when an actor is good is when you see him and several movies/shows and don't instantly recognize them. They can play various types and genres. For example, Mykelti Williamson's Bubba from Forrest Gump is nothing like Drucker in Heat. I just started watching Justified recently and he appears in it and you can easily forget that he was in Gump or Heat.

Anyway, just babbling now. Ha. I just finished binging the Eternaut on Netflix and cleaning my ac filter vents, so I stopped on by.

Lots to unpack here, but you're on to something. It's a shame that only H Berry has won Best Actress. At least the best supporting actress category has been a little better.

I was so happy when Michelle Yeoh won best actress and Youn Yuh-jung won best supporting actress for Minari (She's amazing in Pachinko, too).
Was that Angela Bassett that you were referring to?

I thought Stephanie Hsu in the same movie was better than Jamie Lee Curtis. Unfortunately these award shows can be a bit of a joke. Look at Pacino. So many great roles, but they basically gave him a lifetime achievement award for Scent of a Woman of all roles.

... Was that Angela Bassett that you were referring to? ...
Yes, and believe or not I was thinking about her for a lifetime Oscar before she got screwed. After Curtis won, she showed just how unaware she is. Although Curtis' part was small and Bassett's performance was much better, Curtis thought she deserved it and made some really awkward, insensitive, unfunny jokes about nepotism. It was extremely sad on her part. :(
