OT: TV & Movie thread: Part III

Thought Den of Thieves 2 was fun, and it's great to be back with Big Nick for another 2 hours, but the French Coast is almost too beautiful of a setting for this movie, it misses the griminess of the first one.

Still would be happy to watch a third one.

@Leonardo87 this is the movie I was thinking of. 1999 similar story lines:

Did you watch the film? I thought it was amazing visually and tonally.

Awesome, absolutely loved it. The shot of the stage coach coming to take the guy to the castle was my favorite shot in movies this year.

And I know she’s a nepo baby, but don’t care, Lily-Rose Depp absolutely bought in and gave a great performance.

That was a great shot indeed. The esthetic reminded me of Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow (full circle to Johnny Depp). I loved the uncompromising, unflinching approach that Eggers, who I'm not familiar with except for The Northman, took with the story material, going all Gothic and all seriousness without a hint of camp. A couple of times, I said to myself holy shit he "went there" despite the grotesque nature. And you're right Depp was a revelation. The contortions she made in some scenes were absolutely incredible. You say to yourself you've seen contortions a million times but there was something really different and disturbing with hers.

Upon the recommendation here, I just started Den of Thieves -- I'm only 15 minutes in but very intrigued....don't think I've ever seen Pablo play a bad guy before.

He wasn't exactly a boy scout on the Wire, but he wasn't a "bad" drug dealing, thief, and smuggler either I guess. He did care about Ziggy although that could be considered a negative, too.

I didn't think he was "bad" per se on The Wire -- his concern for ziggy made him human to me. Of course, I could have a different opinion by the time I'm done with Den.

I thought that afterwards, but it's been too long for me to remember the details and I never finished it.

I think he was a drug dealer in the final season of Weeds, but not a bad guy either.
Never saw Orange -- like you, I never finished Weeds.

I swear, I DESPISE these awful nested replies!!!! (Methinks I'm bucking for a banning on this issue!)

I struggled with it at times, but the break-contact scene at the end was very, very good
I see what you mean about struggling.....I've started this movie 3 times and I'm having difficult getting thru it. I watched about an hour last night....and when I got up today and decided to continue, I was not really sure what was going on -- and I'm debating whether to try and go back and refresh my memory.

The French Connection is on. One of the greatest movies ever and old NY captured on film.

Nickel Boys was a good story, but a really tough watch with the way they chose to film it.

Flight Risk was goofy, funny and just bad.

Presence was a steaming pile of mid, but at least the run time was short.

Thankfully January is over in terms of new movies, always a dreadful month.

I'm watching a new OJ Documentary. I thought I've seen it all but there are aspects of what happened that I've never seen before and interviews that I've never seen before. Mark Fuhrman is a key interviewee. I can't wait to get to his tapes to see what he'll say about them.

It's called: American Manhunt O.J. Simpson
