I'm watching this miniseries called Black Doves that was recommended highly by a number of people. I will say that I am enjoying it.

However, there is one drawback which leads to the main question I have: why has going back and forth from the past to the present become such a popular technique? Seems like every show is using it...most to the detriment of what could be a really good story line?
IMO viewers gain more empathy and so attachment to characters when they gain additional background information. Like they start portraying someone as a complete asshole but then when we gain where this behavior is coming from viewers become less judgmental.

Any fans of the last Christina Applegate’s series Dead to Me? IMO this was an excellent dark humor series with some intense dramatical undertones and I highly recommend it (I think there were a total of 3 seasons including the last one where Applegate was performing while physically unable to stand / walk due to MS).

So I just started watching No Good Deed with excellent line up of actors and it has a very similar vibe to it. Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini (hello Dead to Me), Dennis Leary, Luke Wilson among others.

I don't disagree with you.....I disagree with the way they're doing it these days.

Talk about blasts from the past -- not only Leary, but Linda Lavin and Anna Maria Horsford.

Well, timeline jump seems pretty easy way to go about it and if it’s done right most viewers seem to enjoy it.
One of the things that could be on viewers unable to follow this approach is that they are constantly distracted with their phones.

Leary looks ok when cameras away but in closeup shoots - oof

Everyone is trying to be too clever. Linear timelines work better imo.

FInished Landman last night. I hope there is a season 2. You never know these days. Networks are quick to pull series if ratings/streams aren't high enough.

3 more episodes of Severance to go. I can't believe how much I forgot in 3 years, but I'm enjoying as much if not more this second time around.
LOL....they showed enough of the blondes to bring it back over the 10 episodes.....even though Cooper has the real beauty ! The show is not bad.....but a bit phony overall . It is fast and entertaining so I will keep watching it and wait for season two .

I'm calling Paramount+ ---> Sheridan+ so there is a very good chance Landman will be back lol.

Speaking of Sheridan. More like Sheridan adjacent. There are a couple of new shows on Netflix that surely were inspired by success of Yellowstone franchise. I started watching Primeval America set in mid-1800 and I really liked the first couple of episodes. The other one is Territory and it also looks promising.

That karma vote was lame. Do not let losers with bitter feelings decide who wins and how much they win. I really hope they do not continue with that.
The karma vote was terrible. It should have affected starting position or given them an advantage. Not a win!

I also thought the final sucked with all that swimming. Nothing physical, no food, not really any challenging puzzles.

Since that Challenge USA final where EVERYONE quit they’ve really toned down the finals.

I'm glad the karma vote did not effect the men's group at all. I know everyone luvs Derek but he kept saying how he could win the finale via the karma vote if he stays close. That bothered me. I do not think a real champion wants to win via a popularity contest. That seemed really weak imo.

On the ladies side I like Rachel but I would not have wanted that win. I thought Jenny was super nice because she was genuinely happy for Rachel. I think Jenny was the real winner.

You are right about the swimming. That made this challenge final really lean towards Jordan and Michelle. Jenny who smokes and has bad asthma really surprised me how great she did at swimming. She really had the heart of a champion and deserved the full $400k imo. Often she was close to Jordan. Kyland really had a great attitude. If the finals was on land he would have had a good chance but he did not complain nor quit despite being such a bad swimmer. Kyland kept smiling and finished.

Agree with everything. Jenny and Jordan are machines they both deserved it and always compete. I hate players who don’t compete or skate by all season. Wish Wes could have made it in for Era 2. CT lost in a carnival game.

But regardless I’ll always watch every season lol.

Good to find some Challenge fans. I remember watching some of the Road Rules early ones, but I didn't watch again until one day I was flipping channels and came across the an episode of the Finals of season 36 (Double Agents). I was hooked instantly and got Paramout + to watch every season.

I thought s37 was bad. Wasn't crazy about s38 (Ride or Die). I thought s39 was horrific, but s40 was pretty good despite the finale. I'm not a fan of the cast of era 4. It's better when Bananas is in the season.

I'm surprised All Stars 5 is coming to MTV this time. All Stars has bit more of that old school fun vibe, but not I'm crazy about seeing recent people like Fessy on there. This season will be rivals. Fessy is paired up with Amber, so maybe he finally wins a title.

I don't like when people that aren't "all-stars" get put on that version.

Me either, but I think that concept went out the window. At first, All Stars was really supposed to be about the nostalgia of original Challenge seasons and players. They didn't have to be top players of the past and it was still fine. However, now it's a combination of old players, and current bums & good players in a "mini-challenge".

I just don't think it should count as a Challenge win. I would hate to see someone like Fessy win and think he's a Champ. Can't stand that guy.
