OT: TV & Movie Suggestions

Watched "Conclave" on Prime and thought it was a master class in acting.

This was really well done. It sounds boring as hell plot wise but it’s quite gripping.

Robert Harris whose book the movie is based on is an absolute legend at taking a seemingly boring sounding premise and producing one hell of a work of fiction based on it. He also has a trilogy of historical fiction books chronicling the life and career or the Roman senator Cicero (starts with "Imperium"). Sounds not that exciting on paper but soooo good. Highly recommended checking those out if you like Conclave.

I've read the books, but this one came out so log ago that I can't remember the plot

That said, if agree with the first 3 episodes so far... very underwhelmed. I enjoyed the first two seasons quite a bir

I liked the first season. The second was mediocre I thought. Now, 2 eps into season 3 and no skull crushing yet at all?? I mean sheesh...at least he destroyed a carjacker at the beginning of season 2 lol.

Started watching an older tv series (Lost) a little while back.
20+ episodes per season.
Not bad after 2 seasons.
We are watching Lost as well. It's endless--well over 100 episodes--but strangely compelling. Strange because the acting is so-so, the plot is sorta goofy and the genre is a strange combo of sci-fi, fantasy and whodunnit drama. Compelling because the characters really grow on you and you end up sharing their need to resolve the drama of their own lives and the global drama in which they find themselves.
There, I think I've said plenty without giving anything important away.

Speaking of getting into older series, I'm 2.5 seasons into Suits

Pretty entertaining so far, but I'm really curious how they can keep it moving along for 9 seasons

Without giving anything away, it does slow down a bit a little later on.
Just finished watching it a couple of months ago and really liked it.
Have you seen Mad Men? Lots of similarities.

I watched Mad Men when it aired, so it's been a while

It’s funny I never watched Mad Men but I saw a few clips recently and thought I would really like it. Same as Shameless in the sense they had so many seasons it gets a bit intimidating to think of tacking the body of work.

Shameless did let up for one season in my opinion. I laughed all the way through it.

Any Oscar predictions from the gang here? I’ve seen very few of the nominated films. Just Conclave actually.

I’ve seen exactly none. I’m over at my folks and they have the show on and I have no idea what anyone’s talking about. 😆

SAS Rogue Heroes on Prime is fantastic. 8.2 on imdb.

About the formation of the SAS in WW2. You know the off the wall crazy Britsh guy in a movie? They are all that guy. Bunch of British actors that I recognize. Mix in some AC/DC and it's a fun time.

Great show. Waited too long for season 2 to appear. Now I can't wait for season 3. Paddy is a crazy buggar.

Watched Anora yesterday to check out why it was Oscar worthy first part of the movie there are sex Scenes then it’s romantic comedy. Mikey Madison is a great actress
The last scene is probably what made the movie good cause I felt it was like any other movie until the end.

Severance is the best show on tv right now imo, season 2 finale is on Thursday I can't wait.

This season 1 trailer gives an idea of the show's premise (small spoilers for the first episode):

Lost is one of the best shows of all time. People fixate on the mysteries and the "answers" but one thing that gets overlooked is how great of a character show it is on an episode by episode basis as you pointed out. There is an episode where the entire hour is some characters trying to start an old broken VW van, has almost nothing to do with the main plot and yet is one of the most fun episodes of tv I have seen.

Part of the reason is that the long 16-25 episode seasons really build your investment in the characters so that you actually care when something is happening. I watch these newer streaming shows with 6-10 episode seasons with 2-3 years between seasons and roll my eyes when a scene happens where I am expected to feel something for the characters, bro you have been on the screen for barely 6 hours, 3 of them 2 years ago when the previous season aired lol

I had to rewatch the first couple of episodes. It's so subdued and started so low that I kept dozing off. But wow, did this show come around. And every single episode is adding another layer. The season 1 finale had me gripping my seat and yelling at the tv. Masterclass. Superb acting. And the premise of the show should be relatable to anyone who's ever worked a senseless wage job in their life. 100% agree. Best show I've seen in a while.

We streamed "A Complete Unknown" last night.
Way better than expected.

Also streamed "September 5" the other night. Again, better than expected.
