My guess too. And it’s well founded.
Utah is paying the salaries of most of those players. So they have the right to have a say in how they’re treated.
The deal to be Utah’s affiliate only runs through next season. There’s been a lot of talk of promoting the current ECHL team in Utah (the Grizzlies) up to the AHL. The Grizzlies have an affiliation with Colorado but that may be running out after this season.
What happens to the Grizzlies if NHL comes to Utah?
If Utah gets a National Hockey League team next year, what would happen to the Utah Grizzlies? The short answer is that the addition of the Arizona Coyotes won't send the Grizzlies anywhere.

Utah makes all the GM, Coach, and player decisions I believe. It's really just like any other NHL team that doesn't own their own AHL team but partners with one (I think.) Utah could switch affiliations once the contract ends with Tucson if they want to (or create their own AHL team like the Coyotes did with the Roadrunners) and all AM has left is a team in name only, basically. Just like the Coyotes.
At least, that's how I understand it.

Anybody know what the status of Curtis Douglas is? We signed him to a 2 year 2-way contract in July. He wasn't in any pre-season games. And now puckpedia says he has been moved to the non-roster list. What does that mean? What is his actual status?

Hockey Club's Curtis Douglas: Given non-roster status
"Douglas (undisclosed) was placed on the non-roster list Monday, per The Hockey News.
Douglas apparently suffered some injury during training camp. The 24-year-old signed a two-year deal with Utah in July, but he's likely to spend most of the campaign with AHL Tucson once he's recovered from his injury."
