Tsyplakov hit on Poehling - Suspended 3 games

Blindside is irrelevant. Blindside hasn't been in rule book since the 2010-11 season.

I get the suspension from the point of view of 'we are going to call + suspend head contact'.

Even if blindside was a thing (or simply the lack of ability to see a hit coming), it wasn't blindside. Poehling simply didn't scan for vulnerabilities. That's what a a dude who has been bigger than the vast majority of his peers most of his life & is not used to being vulnerable does.

Tsypkalov's hit was bad because he missed his mark. But it wasn't intentionally bad. He stayed level. It wasn't late. The puck carrier was vulnerable, for sure, which is his own lookout. So it was bad, but it wasn't an attempt to injure.

If the NHL called headshots like that, I'd be fine with it. They often don't.

"there is a different play he could have made" "first of all the pucks gone"

It is amazing how much more time slow motion gives you to make those decisions, eh?
I mean, the slightest change in Poehling's speed could have caused principle point of contact to change in very short order. Not saying he shouldn't be penalized.....people get penalized for unintentional things all the time.

But sometimes shit happens and you don't mean it to and there is no time to correct.
Exactly. In the time I've seen Tsyplakov with the Isles I've seen some solid body checks but I've never see him make a deliberate attempt to injure. This is a regular hockey play and more or less a desperation attempt to prevent a player from scoring. He's just built like a monster and players bounce off him. Our own players during training camp said running into him was like running into Chara.

3 games...about right. I figured 2+ for his first time. Him leaning into the hit at the end plus coming from across the ice to make the hit was going to get dinged.

Couldn't believe even after review this wasn't a penalty, but I also think 3 games is a lot. It is a headshot, but not that malicious and I've long been against how injured the player is, being a factor. If it was called a major with no suspension, I think that'd be fine.

Some views make it look like a headshot, others shoulder, but what we can all agree on is that it was a blindside hit, which should have resulted in a penalty
Blindside hits aren't against the rules.

Yet the league looks away from McDavid's headshots on opposing players in his previous two games.
You're so angry that you cant even realize that Draisaitl did the other "headshot"

Not sure what the league is compensating for in this decision. Asinine decision.

Great move by Tsyp towards a player with the puck making a move towards the goal. Unfortunate outcome. Hate to see the Flyer player or any player get hurt, but in all my years of playing, hockey is not a kind sport even when there is no intent to injure. Both players are about the same size so on some level, Poehling needs to protect himself.

Wasn’t predatory and I would expect Tysp to make that hit again every time.

This is a two minute penalty at best. Unfortunate result, but that seems to be all that matters to the Captain Hindsight Club.
