Tsyplakov hit on Poehling - Suspended 3 games

Head is main point of contact, slight upwards upper body movement from the hitter, hitter coming from the side/back ....

It should be 5 game misconduct and 2-4 games.

BUT .... Ive seen so many head hits with no supp discipline ..

Blatant headshot, blatant blindside hit, but Poehling's a Flyer, so he's fair game. We know how it goes by now.

Some views make it look like a headshot, others shoulder, but what we can all agree on is that it was a blindside hit, which should have resulted in a penalty
Blindside is irrelevant. Blindside hasn't been in rule book since the 2010-11 season.

Looks like a shoulder to chest hit to me, with the hit happening a fraction of a second after the puck leaves Ryan's stick.

Poehling going down and spinning around like he was hit by a Mack truck makes this look a lot more dramatic.
Yeah cause physics says that a shoulder to chest hit causes such a violent head and body whip and twist. Makes sense.

Yeah that looks like primary contact was to the head and came from the blindside. I've liked Tsyplakov's physical game from what I've seen but this wasn't a great hit. Part of me wants to question how Poehling thought he'd be able to cut through that ice untouched but in the end, the onus is on the hitter to throw a clean check. Really should have been more desperate to get stick on stick/puck first anyway, still could have cranked him once squared up

Bullcrap predatory headshot. Your body doesn't spin like that with a hit through the chest.

The flyers response to it was pathetic.

I see it as exactly opposite, there is no way to send somebody into a flip like that without significant upper body contact. The neck is simply not stiff enough to transfer that much force. There is significant head contact there as well, but the spin is due to shoulder/chest contact.

I’ve seen worse plays get nothing this season so this doesn’t surprise me at all with how consistent Parros and friends have been.

Throw it into the blender and see what the league comes up with this time.

Tsyplakov didn't elevate, and the first contact was with the shoulder, but obviously the hit proceeded then to the head. The first video in the below linked article has 3 recent hits that resulted in 0 games, 3 games and 5 games. I don't see this being the 5 game hit which was strictly to the head. Maybe something in between the 0 and 3 game hits? Although, Whitecloud really elevated on his hit and got 0 games, so I guess they relied on the initial contact being with Knies' chest? Who knows....

The hit would have been fine if he didn't turn his body to lead with his shoulder. I understand why he turned his body, but it wouldn't be a topic right now had he just hit him straight on in the direction he was coming.

Of course it does, it's all about the angle and the force of the hit. Big hit to the side of the chest can and will make a body twist.
But it doesn't make the body twist at the same time the shoulder is initially connecting with the chest...

Grazed the shoulder but too much of his shoulder hit his head, he will be punished for that hit IMO. Game of inches, 2-3 more inches into the shoulder and it would been a good hit. I suspect it will be a couple games suspension.

Yeah I’m not sure where people are getting “blatant”. This was an extremely close call, matter of inches, and it’s obvious that the player was aiming for the shoulder.

I understand the flyers anger and I hope Poehling is ok. That being said it’s tough hit to evaluate. Some angles make it look different. Looks like the head wasn’t the principle point but was hit obviously. Max is an absolute tank but he’s not a dirty player( not that it matters per hit)

I don’t think he’ll be suspended honestly but who knows.

Never mind 3 games lol

No surprise, I said a couple games. As i said its a game of inches, 2-3 more inches into the guys shoulder and it would of been a great clean hit. In the end he grazed his shoulder only and made too much contact with the head.

It shouldve been a major in the game and no suspension.

Player saftey came down hard to make up for the refs mistake....and I gaurentee they landed on 3 games bc the third game of that is vs philly.

Id rather the refs suspended and the Flyers allowed a shot at redemption

Predatory? It's a backcheck. Every coach wants his team to take out the puck-carrier.
There was zero predatory behavior here. He was not head hunting he was only reacting to a player in a good position to score. Play it at real speed and all the guy was trying to do was prevent the player from getting a shot off. Can't help it if the guy is build like a freight train but there was no attempt to injure here though that was the unfortunate result. If it was not a direct hit on the head there should be no suspension.
