Try Richards at LW?

It's really easy....

Option 1.... Richards returns to form... and goes back to center

Option 2.... Richards doesn't and gets bought out or traded... deadline or next summer.

Keeping Richards at 4C and playing with guys like Lewis/Clifford is a waste of what 5.8-0.5 (andy) so 5.3M and will not happen for long.

Carter is going back to wing unless Richards is traded. Kopi/Carter/Stoll/Richards is over kill.

Trading Richards leaves the question if one of Kopi/Carter/Stoll gets injured... who fills in for them? Good to have an extra top 6 center playing wing in case of injury.

Richards does not play well with Williams... Williams game is about finding rebounds and getting dirty goals around the net. Richards is used to trying to pass to Carter who is looking for a spot to shoot from. The 2 do not work together. Also do you really want to put Williams turnovers with a guy that was struggling defensively last year?

Sandpaper is overrated. The reason you put Toffoli on the top line is because he can make a pass. This comes in very handy when guys like Kopi/Gaborki can get someone passing to them so they can shoot. Something Brown can't provide. Or even Pearson or Carter with Kopi/Gabby

It's about balance.... when the Kings were running King/Kopi/Lewis other teams could target Richards and put him up against their best lines... with next year the line being something like
Gaby/Kopi/Toffoli
Pearson/Richards/Carter
Brown/Stoll/Williams
The offense will be there so teams will be more worried about Kopi/Gaborik destroying them, less able to key in on Richards. Also not being one of the worst teams in scoring next year allows an occasional bad goal without losing a shootout to Buffalo. Of course we need to see what Sutter does. Does he learn from what he had to do in the playoffs last year or does he go right back to a set up with one of the worst offenses in the league.

I just feel like those of you who want Carter and Richards back together are either forgetting or choosing to ignore just how terrible they have been defensively when paired together.

Also, still have yet to see a lineup with Carter at RW that is better than the lineup the Kings used in route to a Stanley Cup last spring. The Kings are built on strength down the middle and having your two best forwards as your 1 and 2 centers is a good thing.

And Brown certainly struggled last year but he does add a physical element that Toffoli doesn't and Brown did have some key offensive moments, especially in the Conf finals and the finals and since the other teams best defenders are going to be out against Kopi all the time it gives Brown a chance to lay the body on guys like Keith and McDonaugh and wear them down.

People are also forgetting Pearson/Toffoli played soft minutes with Carter.

They rarely got over 14 minutes a night, that will have to change this season, if Pearson/Toffoli want to be permanent top six players.

Lets not forget Toffoli took one shift in third period of game Five, due to poor play.

Sutter will give Mike Richards every opportunity to regain his second line Center status(regardless of what people think, or if Mike even deserves it).

If Richards comes camp ready to go, and I think he will, then most of the spots in the line-up are up for grabs. There becomes an argument that Richards could end up in any C spot that isn't Kopitar's and that then gives Sutter a major problem in terms of how they line up.

It's a great problem to have though as it will maximise our options and create fierce competition at camp. Whilst I don think for one second any other than a handful of the spots are set, Richards moving up guarantees changes on the wings also. I think it is most likely that Richards ends up at 3C but who knows? We all know DS likes to change things up and I expect we will see various line combinations auditioned until he is satisfied. He will also mix it up depending on the opposition. We will spend half the year complaining about it until we get Hartnell and a first for Clifford at the deadline and the lines get set for the play-offs.

I know this is the internet, but why not let the coaches who have won 2 cups in 3 years figure it out.

You can say that about anything though. Ultimately, despite anything discussed on this board, nobody really has a say or influence on anything that happens with the team, but as avid fans, it is still fun to discuss the possibilities the team has.

Oh look, another ****ing Mike Richards' thread.

I was wondering where these went. These threads are like the Kings, cockroaches that just won't go away.

Of course, I'm just being a cranky ****. Getting old sucks. :help:

Dunno if I'm alone, but MR is a fierce competitor who knows what it takes to win. He and Dean spoke and they were both on the same page. Richards knew he wasn't performing and I think he'll address that in the off season heading into camp. Seeing the guy turn it on and flying down the ice on occasion blowing past defenders (yes, it's happened) shows me he can get back to form.

Let us not forget Darryl's always willing to give veterans every opportunity to get back on track, even when we think he shouldn't. I've been one to harp on RR and Greene, but they were able to bounce back. Not sure why Mike couldn't, he's just too damn good.

Richards on the 4th line is exactly what this team needs to win the Stanley Cup. No team can match our center depth when we are rolling Kopi/Carter/Stoll/Richards.

If you feel really bad about the Salary thing, put Stoll on the 4th line and Richards on the 3rd line in your own mind.

Yet you still click on it?

This one is fine, people are discussing the potential Kings lineup this season like adults.

All the other threads went south because of the immature kids and adults who were not capable of discussing anything to do with Mike Richards without resorting to personal insults and name calling. Deesham has never been one of those fans, she can actually have an intelligent discussion and present her case without name calling.

This thread has been fine.

You post this just as it begins to go south!

I don't know about "insults" or "immature kids" or "name calling," not sure what you are referring to...it might be the "Herby and Hyori" show, I always enjoy those. Too bad she's being punished right now and cannot participate. :(

Well that person shouldn't be taken seriously. You know that.

I am referring to the group that headed over here in June 2011, who would move over to the Panthers board if Richards were traded there tomorrow. They are not capable of having a reasonable discussion on the player without losing their cool and resorting to name calling. Go back and look at any of the threads and when they all start to go downhill, it is almost always with one of them or the previously mentioned guy.

Richards just needs to get his legs back and his conditioning, which were piss poor from the start of last season.

From there, the dude just couldn't catch up the rest of the season.

Thanks Herby. I love hockey and watch a lot of it, thanks to NHL Center ice and Nhl network and that includes memorial cup reruns and AHL games, college games. I try to read some hockey news every day , scoping the web. This board is a good board , where you can talk about players from other teams, or contracts or coaching changes , and actually have a good discussion. And I enjoy talking hockey with hockey fans, which in Flyers country, aren't that easy to find. I have a few friends who are true hockey fans and recognize other teams, players and do look at the Flyers objectively l, in black and white, like I do. But not many, most blindly support every move and don't dare criticize any of them.

I criticized what they did to Bob (who I loved then and still do) being kicked in the nuts and traded. I predicted it would come back to haunt them, that he was outstanding in his rookie year, not understanding English or North America and instead of embracing that and giving the kid room to grow in his 2nd year, they cut him off at the knees.

I loved jVR and am glad he's doing great and making Homer and Snider look bad.
If you were going to take a very talented forward who you chose not to develop or provide a stable environment and trade him, at least get a good player back. They couldhave packaged him and gotten Yandle but instead they opted for a 1 for 1 trade and we got stuck with LUKE "Low IQ and overated' schenn. Awful trade.

But too many Flyer fans drink that orange kool aid and support those moves to the point wher ewhen you object or try to present that side, you get hammered for it .

this summer, I was really pissed off when they Threw away Ty McGinn, who busts his butt every shift, drives to the net, heart and soul kid, actually can score and has some offensive skills and was only used when a player was hurt, no reg. shifts, or games, up for 3 and back down to the AHL. And I hope he has a killer year on the Sharks forth line. Instead, the Flyers in their infinite wisdom signed Rinaldo to 2 more years. He is one o few players I despise in the NHL and has little if any redeeming qualities. Last year, 4 pts and 153 penalty minutes and I made the mistake of criticizing that move today when it was in the paper and got blasted for it. (H'e's great...he's a real Flyer...) and my favorite (he gives them energy)

anyway, thanks for the good words...

Don't think it'll happen, but trading Richards... what teams do people think may take a Flyer  on him... and what kind of return gets it done.... Preds look to me like they could use some extra help... maybe Wash, but no cap space...

We should try Mike Richards at bartending
