Player Discussion Troy Terry

I still remember the first time I saw him. In the NCAA final 4 the year after we drafted him, he was centering(?) the 3rd line and that is when I realized we have something in him. You could tell he plays a really smart game and has the dangles and awareness but it was quite raw back then, and what hold him back the most was his strength. He was super thin.

Now many years later, here we are. I really hope he can go to the Olympics, not sure what the US roster could look like. But this would not be his first Olympics :naughty:

Me after last game: yeah he really is doing great this season, but idk if he will keep this up, he is shooting at 28% right now
Terry: ups his shooting percentage to 33%
Ya he’s def in a hot streak right now…. It’ll be interesting to see where he lands at seasons end(point wise + shooting percentage)

With his 2nd goal yesterday he now has 7 goals on the season which tied for single season career high and it only took 10 games compared to 48 from last season to reach 7.

Last year it seemed like he was getting alot better just wasnt getting the results...this year he's gotten better again and is getting the results, good thing we did not give up on him he is a very talented guy some players just need more time to adjust to the NHL game
Been preaching for years.

What a bomb in that second goal. I had seen that shot in the AHL but I think it's the first time I see it from him in the NHL.

Such a beautiful goal, man.

And that first goal, loved that Zegras had the front row seat on that Getzy's patience :naughty: I think it's so important Getzy sticks around for another year or two to guide our Ducklings

Well he looks like he’s having fun this year, which I couldn’t say last year.

And the young players are taking pressure off getzlafs shoulders…. I don’t recall seeing getz have to kill penalties as much… he doesn’t have to carry the heavy load on the team, it’s been kinda a full effort from the team. Even on his like terry can carry the load when needed

I could def see him play another 2 years, with things the way they are, specially when you consider he’ll be asked to do less and less as the young players get better.

His goal scoring rate is going to slow down but his assist rate should stay the same or go up even, especially if they find a consistent competent linemate for him and Getz on the left and don’t end up plugging Deslauriers there for extended periods.

i think by years end he will be in the 20-25 goal, 60 point range, maybe slightly higher if he avoids a massive cold streak.

I think you're right about the PK. Different coaches have used Getz on the PK over the years, including in pre-captain times when it seemed like he was more engaged in games when he was playing in all situations. He's been upwards of 2 minutes per game before. This year he's barely at 30 seconds, so it's not that big a deal. There was always an oscillation between maximizing his utility versus avoiding overuse. Now that we're decent on the PK it's not so critical to try and use him.

Beside the point, but just wanted to mention Eakins is using him for draws on the PK. He's the only full-time center for us that's over 50%.

:D We haven't even seen Terry play against the Colorado Avalanche yet this season. Hoping he'll get his first hat trick vs Colorado.
I'm more impressed by his playmaking, speed & the other things he does well because his shooting % is 33.3% and that number will go down.
Probably finishes around 65 to 70 points which would make most likely him the most productive forward on the team by the end of the season.
