Matheson comes over, keeps his gloves on and grabs Trouba's jersey. Doesn't punch, or rough him up at all. He's not even facing towards him. Getting an instigator for that is a whole new precedent.

Matheson's not a fighter, I don't think he actually wanted any piece of Trouba, but realized he had to go once Trouba threw his gloves off.

Eventually one of these head hits by Trouba is going to truly backfire. Watch this one full speed and he slows down to make the hit with a little leap towards Barron.

This game is also 5-2, literally no reason to go for the hit, just no awareness by Trouba to more interfere than demolish.

I get what you are saying, but that action still precipitated a fight. There are all sorts of qualifiers in the rule that make it a reasonable penalty.
