Speculation: Trotz: "If we don't get it going, then I'm going to start our rebuild plan."

Not sure if it's been said...Probably has but the guy traded a young stud goalie and now wants to rebuild....Does Nashville have a deep prospect pool at goalie? They have a lot of good prospects just not sure if goalie is one of them...
Not really but Saros is only 30 and in his prime. We've proven we can develop great goalies and now we have Korn back.

The kid we got from SJ hasn't been half bad though.

Tbh never understood the trading of Askarov though just wish the Devils had gotten him...

I don't think the Preds care about having a prospect pool in goal atm? They kinda stated that with the Askarov trade? Murray and Chrona are doing great in the AHL atm. There aren't really any significant other prospects at G atm. And I don't think the Preds care? Jatkola, Milota, Haider... it's going to be like 4-6 years before the Preds really care about that. Chrona is the frontrunner in the meantime, and he's looking surprisingly good?

The termination is under appeal, so until that process is complete, the spot doesn’t open up.
Or, if you are Philadelphia and Nashville, the termination already happened.

Then if the appeal is successful... IF... the hit comes back on the books.

What this means in practice is that you maybe don't want to bank on that Cap being available? But the Preds already used some of it when they went to a 23-man roster with Del Gaizo and L'Heureux both called up. So they are treating it like it is DONE. If it gets clawed back subsequently, well. maybe the pro-rating will have saved them, I'm sure they've run those numbers. Meanwhile, they could continue to treat it like they have the whole $4M opened it up. Websites are listing it that way too.

He asked for it and generally we have always been an organization that once a player says they want to go we have no problem sending them out the door.
I mean it's not like Trotz just woke up one morning and said, " You know what? I feel like trading Askarov today "

Trotz told him as long as he had a good camp he would be the backup this year. He had already told Wedgewood before he signed the deal he would likely be in Milwaukee. So Askarov turned down the opportunity to be in the NHL this season.

As far as NJ getting him that's a conversation to have with your GM, he apparently wasn't willing to give up the right assets to get him. :dunno:

I’ve read this now about Nash and New York. Sure they’ve done well but no guarantee

would roman josi be avaliable to kickstart a rebuild? or is he staying a predator for life?
Pred for life. There is no chance Josi would be traded. I feel like we’re going to get tired of saying that over and over again this season though.

I mean I'm already tired of telling people that him and Forsberg both have full NMC's so if anything happens it will be because they want it to happen. If they want to stay in Nashville then we don't have a say one way or another really.

Genuinely, what would their rebuild plan entail? Imagine they'd keep their new 3 dudes, plus Forsberg. ROR out? Saros? Nyquist?

Saros, Forsberg, Josi, and Stamkos all have NMCs. Marchessault and Skjei have 15 team NTCs. O’Reilly, Novak, and Nyquist are their only guys with value and no trade protection.

And this jackass only left himself one more retention slot available this season, and the Preds have so much dead cap that they really can’t sell cap space either.

Trotz said that Josi, Forsberg, Saros, Stamkos, Skjei, O'Reilly, and Marchessault would be kept no matter what.

So it could therefore involve potentially trading any of Nyquist, Lauzon, Sissons, Schenn, etc... i.e. the supporting cast players. Which they won't get much for.

The main message is that maybe they'll give a little more icetime and opportunity to the younger players and prospects who are already on hand, i.e. Evangelista, Parssinen, Tomasino, L'Heureux, Del Gaizo, etc - and others from Milwaukee to replace any of the supporting cast which gets traded away.

It's not the kind of full tear-down rebuild that HF fans always fantasize about.

Trotz was a bad GM before this summer, and now you have to call him a full blown idiot.
He was a bad GM for the all of...1 season where he inherited a bubble team (at best), cleared out some vets he didn't want around, and still saw them into the playoffs?

Sure, the team is abominable this season with some major veteran baggage. Our prospect pool is fine, though lacking elite talent, we have tons of picks, and our long-
term cap situation is fine.

The only move I have real issue with is Askarov and he prefers to stay with Saros. So be it.

Seems like a retool on the fly. The problem with that method is the club keeps the old guys who aren’t what they once were but are still good enough to keep the club in that 7-15 draft spot. Trotz will need to unearth elite talent in the middle of round one and hope to get lucky in their picks after that too. It can work but it’s dicey for sure. IMO Fans down there will interest pretty quick, regardless.
